Grip will not go on the gun

I just bought a new frame to build a 17 HMR and the grip that I have will not seat properly so I am thinking that I have an older model or differnet frame.  Basically the the screw and spring just below where the grip bolt screws into is blocking the grip from seating properly.  What is the problem and how do I solve it.....any help is appreciated..frame serial number is 289961

Check to see if you have a number of washers or spacers in the grip hole another thing, is the grip for contender or G2 if for G2 will not fit the contender frame. I bought a used grip that had at least 5 washers in the hole, you also need to make sure the grip bolt is not too long as it will keep the hammer from full cock.

No washers and the grip came off of a G2....guessing that I need to get a regular Contender grip???????

That is the problem then as the G2 grip is at a different angle than the regular contender, some of the reg. contender forends will work on g2 but not all depends on shape but all the barrels interchange.
