Battle of San Jacinto April 21st, 1836
« on: April 20, 2011, 12:35:29 AM »

This is the flag the Texans carried into the battle at San Jacinto, when they defeated Santa Anna and his Army of regular troops.  4 o'clock in the afternoon,  April 21st, 1836.  The Texans were outnumbered two to one....it was no sure thing.
The flag may surprise you...

And these are the words to the tune the two Texian musicians played as their 'army' advanced on the Mexican troops....

Will you come to the bower I have shaded for you?
You bed shall be of roses, bespangled with dew.
Will you, will you, will you, will you come to the bower?
Will you, will you, will you, will you come to the bower?

There under the bower on soft roses you lie
With a blush on your cheek, but a smile in your eye.
Will you, will you, will you, will you smile, my beloved?
Will you, will you, will you, will you smile my beloved?

But the roses we press shall not rival your lip,
Nor the dew be so sweet as the kisses we'll sip.
Will you will you, will you, will you kiss me, my beloved?
Will you, will you, will you, will you kiss me, my beloved?

And, oh! for the joys that are sweeter than dew
From languishing roses or kisses from you.
Will you, will you, will you, will you, won't you, my love?
Will you, will you, will you, will you, won't you, my love?

Let's not forget "The Yellow Rose of Texas."
