I have a 6.5 TCU that I love..the 6.5 Raptor is just a tiny step above it.

I have found that I really like the 6.5 JDJ.  Axehandle has one of the raptors, maybe he will chime in.....GS

I have a 6.5 tcu now.  I'm shooting 100 nosler bt at 2425 fps.  I think this would be good for deer out to125 yards.   I was just wondering about the raptor and what it was capable of.
Thank you all for your input.

Unless you already have a lot of 6.5 mm bullets you might want to consider the 7X30 waters.  Check the stats,  it is basically the equivalent of the 6.5 JDJ.  It is easy to form the brass and the barrels and dies are much cheaper.

Without looking at the books I think the 7 TCU has a larger case capacity than the 6.5 TCU.  Both have the same OAL but the 6.5 TCU has the same shoulder and taper than the .223.  Fireforming the 7TCU gives it a larger capacity.

mmmm...no. The whole TCU line has the same near straight taper, they all use the same shoulder point, the only thing that changes is the neck length and neck size. I have all of them along with the .223 AI which is more or less a .223 TCU FWIW.

Haven't progressed beyond fire forming for my 6.5 Raptor.   I run mine out of a bull barrel Encore.  Seems like it is 13 inches.  Looking for some time these days to load the fire formed cases and get back to the range to shoot paper.   Rig is heavy enough that I shoot a 12X rifle scope on it.  IMHO it will be a much better hunting gun in a Contender.   FWIW it looks like the 6.5 Raptor may go away.  Last I heard only three 6.5s had been sold.  Go to Gary's web site and read a bit..  He posts a few numbers.

I have a 6.5TCU I used in Wyoming last fall for antelope. 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, 2,050fps, shot a 'lope at 255 yards in the shoulder, exited about 1 1/2" hole. Dead shortly after.  My barrel was a 14" that Gary Reeder but a long muzzlebrake on, so effective length is about 12"

Your 6.5TCU will be fine for deer.

I have a Burris 2X7 with the Ballistic Plex which worked great.
