10 ga in local pawn shop
« on: May 04, 2011, 07:00:49 PM »
I understand the 10 ga is a 'special' gun due to its different sized frame, but is there anything else 'special' about it - well, other than its hugeness!! :o

The 10ga frame is an SB2 shotgun frame, same investment cast, heat treated alloy steel as the SB2 rifle frame, same external dimensions, but the frame sides are thinner at the top for the much larger 10ga(and 12ga USH) chamber swells, 1.2" in diameter as compared to 1.1" for all the other H&R barrels. All H&R stocks fit it just like any SB1 or SB2 rifle frame, but the forends have a much bigger barrel channel since they're bigger in diameter.

Ahh.. thanks Tim. I thought the frame itself was larger. So it's the same as the SB2 rifle frame except for the thinner sides at the top. And it looks like its color case hardened, or at least made to look like case hardened.

I'm guessin' a guy could put a 30/30 barrel on it huh? Its got a sticker price of $175, which seems kinda reasonable - except I have no use for a huuuge 10ga barrel (not even as a tomato stake) but I have been contemplating a frame for a spare 30/30 barrel I have.

You could put a 30-30 barrel on it, but it won't fit right because of the gaps on either side at the chamber swell, but but it could be bedded, one member did it with a 30-06 barrel IIRC. It also has a large firing pin which may be a problem.

You can find a late model 410, 20 or 12 ga. for the same money and have a better fit and a decent swap barrel set up.
