The Quest To Build The World's Smallest Field Cannon
« on: June 04, 2011, 11:27:24 AM »
My first attempt.  A little large for a key chain.  All steel.   The 1-1/2" diameter wheels turn and are not wobbly. It has a  9/64" bore [.140"] that will fire a 1/8" steel ball bearing.  The bore on this cannon is the same diameter as the vent size on many larger cannons.  I still have to drill the vent.  It will be 1/32" [.031"]  My next attempt will be a smaller one with 1" or 1-1/4" diameter wheels. I'm exploring the possibility of cheeks, trunnions and an elevation screw.  :-\  My goal is a functional key chain field cannon.

I like the concept a lot, Dom.  Are you thinking about including an "Atomic Annie" on a functional sliding upper carriage in your collection of key chain cannon?   ;D ;D

Press on, gotta do a teenie-tiny elevation screw!

"..Atomic Annie.."?  "..functional sliding upper carriage.."?  Ah, you mean Barbette carriage.  Hey now that's a thought!
Worlds smallest 100 pound Seacoast Parrott Gun. I like that!  Great idea!  ;D

I have had this interest in nano size cannons ever since I saw the tiniest hand gun and rifle replicas by Bob Urso and  others.  http://home.comcast.net/~boburso/piccolo/

That would be the only 25 MICRO ton atomic cannon on the  block!

Dom... it's small but is it the smallest?  the challange is to be able to bore
a hole in a straight pin and turn it into a cannon barrel
  ;D
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

KABAR2,  It's NOT the smallest cannon by a long shot.  Seems as if there is already an arms race.  Maybe I'll some day have the smallest working "field" cannon.  Here's the smallest to date.  I think... ;D

It seems to me that one of our members here built a 'Ring Mortar' that he fired several times on his ring finger on a gloved hand.  I'm trying to remember the bore size.  I believe it was a little under 2mm!  Does anyone remember this tiny mortar?

Seacoast, I think this is what you were thinking of.
I may not be completely sane, but at least I don't think I have the power to influence the weather.
