two piece locking bolt
« on: May 07, 2011, 05:17:25 PM »
I recently picked up a   22 match barrel that was really hard to open on my early model contender frame. I lightly stoned the bolts and it still wouldn't open the way it should. I have a 45/410 barrel that I rarely shoot so I swapped out the bolts in  the two barrels. The match 22 works fine now, but the last time iI fired the 45/410 barrel it opened after firing without pulling the trigger guard spur. Does that indicate not enough engagement with the locking bolt? It seems the new regime over at TC is a little less cooperative when it comes to sending out free replacement parts, so I thought it might be good to try to remedy this one one my own. Any suggestions?

I think that is your problem. Put a little blacking from a felt marker on the bolt and close it a couple of times and you will be able to see how far the bolt is seating.
