I guess if I could choose only one it would be 2400. However I use Unique for the lighter lead bullet loads and 296 or H110 for heavier full power ploads. The 200 Speer SWC HP is very accurate out of my guns with 22.0/296/ mag primer . Depending on barrel length you should get 1400 or so with it and get good expansion & Penetration on deer. I would use the 210 load in the hornady book for larger game --hogs.

I am currently using W296 in mine, but it has a lot of muzzle flash and is loud.  I have used IMR 4227 before with good results.  Once I shoot up what I have loaded with the W296 I am going back to IMR 4227 or am going to try 2400.

For light loads Universal Clays and Green Dot have been great. For midrange loads Bluedot is very accurate. For mag loads I have found H4227 to produce the best accuracy by far, but 4227 needs a firm crimp and mag primers.

A great load that is very easy on the recoil and has enough power for deer and smaller is the 170 Sierra with 10.0 gr of Universal Clays. Very accurate with 1100-1150 fps. (actual velocity,1330 fps/6.5" blackhawk/1/18/03)

My everyday carry load is 11.7 gr of bluedot with 210 swc, very accurate with reasonable power.

For a heavy duty fullpower load you cant beat a stiff load of 4227 underneath of a 265 WLN LBT from cast performance, shoots great and penetrates like no other. I shot a mule doe quartering towards me broke the front shoulder through the entire body and exited the off side rear ham. But for deer hunting it is overkill. I generally stick with either the 200 gr speer HP or the sierra 170 jhp over 4227.

dido on the loads using clays above.  I like using clays and HP38 in my large bore magnums because a little goes a long way, they are VERY clean burning, and they are extremly accurate!!!!

Powder for .41Magnum

8) Right now I'm using a lot of Unique as I got a great deal on a case of 8 pounders. I'm using 9gr. under a hard cast 250gr.WFNGC bullet from a NEI mould. Depending on which .41Magnum I use, it's good for about 1000 to 1250fps. For hunting handloads with the same bullet, I use W296 as I got a good deal on some of this, too. Both are very accurate in everything from a 3-inch S&W to a Marlin lever action. RKBA!

My Blackhawk likes H110 with the Hornady 210gr XTP bullets and Federal magnum primers. I tried standard primers with H110 and the groups strung vertically. With lead 210 bullets, it likes AA #5 and standard primers.

Ive found blue dot to be exceptionally accurate and H110 to get slightly better velocities, your choice

I would not recomand 1 powder if your going to load lite and heavy loads. For heavy hunting load I would recomand Win. 269.  It`s about identical to H-110, but it`s usually cheaper, and it gives you the most velosity with the least presure. For plinking loads I would recomand Bullyseye. 3 to 4 grains behind a hard cast bullet and you got some pretty cheap plinking ammo. I recomand hot or mag. primers for the Bulleyes loads as there is so little powder in the case you may need the extra fire if your pointing the gun down and the powder is in the frount of the case. It`s a great round and I`m sure you`ll love it. It`s one I`ve always wanted, but have yet to own. I do however load handgun ammo from .38 sp. to .454 and have taken several deer with handgun. I would also like to recomand Serria bullets for hunting. They seem to consistantly give me excellant accuracy and termanial preformance. With most of the others I get one or the other.

I have used just about all those powders mentioned here at one time or another. For plain Jane .41RemMag loading I have settled on two powders. Bullseye (6.5g with a 215 lead bullet) for light fun and new shooter loads and 2400 for hunting and carry loads. All the other powders "work" just fine in .41RemMag but I have found over the years (since 1989) that 2400 has less of a rap to the hand than the others mentioned. I just last summer found out maybe why that is. I saw some test data on the burn curve and peak pressure curve of various powders used in magnum pistol loads. Of all those I saw data on only 2400 has a flat pressure “curve”. The pressure goes up hits max, flattens out, and then drops, all the other powders hit max then drop with no flattened peak. I also find the muzzle blast with 2400 isn’t as sharp as with the other powders. Just my $0.02 worth. I know you will truely enjoy your .41 IMHO it is the best out there and will do anything you ask of it. :-)
Love those .41s'
