B 78 problem?
« on: December 29, 2003, 05:39:14 PM »
Just acquired a "new" B-78 in 6mm Rem...first box of Hornady 100-grainers left a lot to be desired, in the accuracy dept (oh yeah, it is pretty!  :( )...is this gun supposed to be a "tack-driver", or does it suffer from the same fickle tendancies as the Number One? I surely don't have these problems as often with the bolts, but then, this is only my second single shot rifle... i really want to like them, BUT(!)...

Drew see the thread Single Shot Book on this page posted by myself.
In that book the author( gunsmith and SS expert) takes the steps to accurise a B-78 in either 244 or 6mm. Perhaps that will help you. If the gun was supposed to be a tackdriver then perhaps you need to find out which brand of ammo was used to drive those tacks. Sometimes it matters a great deal. Best of luck. POW

Don't own a B78 but my 1885s both high wall and low wall are real tack drivers. Most everyone I've known who have them say the same. I've only been involved with one B78 in .30-06 and the first load I fed it pleased the owner so much he said that's good let's use that. I thought we could do a bit better but it was his rifle and was darn good hunting accuracy on the first try.
