Gunsmithing schools

Does anyone know if there's a gunsmithing school near Louisville KY? I'll be retireing from active duty in a few years and I'm thinking about getting into gunsmithing as a  retirement job/hobby.

This has been hashed out a couple of times here. Do a search and check out your findings. Good luck.. You might also check with Brownells. They have a job fair for gunsmiths and may have some info on schools.. Give them a call at the TechLines..800-741-0015

Another good idea you could persue is an online school....Like Penn Foster. It sends you materials threw the mail as well as a few tools. I would not recomend only that but it is a good idea for someone wanting to get into this career. Here is a link.. http://www.pennfoster.edu/gunsmith/index.html also it is covered by Government's Tuition Assistance.... Also have you heard of the aprenticeship program from USMAP??? Great program as well....

You might also check with Brownells website as they have a list (I think) of gunsmithing schools. If all else fails you could call their techline at 800-741-0015.

Probably the best do it at home is AGI (American Gunsmith Institute) all lessons are made on DVD. The courses run from $597 to $8000 http://www.americangunsmith.com/   You can also check out 'Modern School', about $1400.. Penn Foster, $590  or Ashworth College, $690. P. F. and Ash. prices are from memory.. If you can do the AGI Pro course, you get some nice tools and a mini lathe. The other 3 you also get some tools with them. Good luck, Gary
