This would be awesome!!  I already have a DW 445SM, a T/C Contender 445SM in 24" barrel,  this would just top it off to have one one for my Handi.....

Tim rented the reamer for mine.  It's an older overbore, but I just load chubbier bullets and run them  through the Lee Factory Crimp Die, and they chamber and shoot wonderfully.  The bullets came out of Montana Bullet Works.

I recently had my .44 reamed to the .445. Absolutely happy with finished product. (if you can find some brass). I ordered/rented reamer online.

Only caution is to closely look at reamer when you receive and send back. I got stuck for a sharpening fee and don't feel it was justified. Of course YMMV....Just a hint.

Can I use my regular .44 mag dies with .445 brass? Just back the dies off a bit?

My Lee .44 die set works fine, and I run them through the Factory Crimp Die and the .445s chamber and shoot well, even oversized.  You'll like it.

Tim Put me on the list for the 445 SM reamer!  G66 Yipee!   Thanks,Digger

Need a PM with name and mailing address for my record keeping so I know who ordered what and when, gonna have to hire a secretary to keep this all straight, or someone is gonna end up with the wrong reamer!!  :o ??? ;D

Same instructions apply as the other reamers.

Tim

Quote
There are good instructions in the FAQs, just never turn the reamer backwards, always turn it clockwise in the cutting direction and use lots of cutting oil, it doesn't hurt to remove the reamer every few turns to clean the cuttings off with a soft brush, and go slow keeping the reamer inline with the bore, mounted vertical in a bench vice is the easiest way to do that, don't use the ends of the reamer handle for torque, try to turn it from as near the center as possible, the last two I did I used a nut driver and a 3/8" square drive socket so I'm just twisting the reamer and I'm less likely to end up cutting an egg shaped chamber by too much side force. Cut the chamber to the right depth, which is until the rim cutter just touches the existing rim cut of the chamber, maybe even just short of it if the rim cut is excessive, you can mark the rim cut with a lipstick or marker to show when the rim cutter touches, don’t ream any deeper or you’ll create excess headspace please return the Max brass with the reamer for the next guy to use,

Tim aka quickdtoo

Please ship it back to me in a small flat rate priority box , cost will be a $5.80, be sure to use some tape to seal it up and include the original packing, some folks reuse the box, some use a new box, just depends on how you open it and how it gets handled by the PO before you receive it. Include $20 cash, check, postal money order, all funds over my shipping cost from each rental will be donated to GBO.

Oh, I want to rent the reamer for sure. The only reason I haven't done it yet is because there is no brass.  :(

Is the process the same as reaming the 357 max? Just run the reamer in until it touches the rim cutout and stop?
If it's as easy as my maxi ream then I'll definitely ream my Scout.

Yes, same easy process, nothing like doing a 444 Marlin tho, I'll never do another by hand, better part of 3½ hours and blisters!!  :'(

I just rechambered my remaining 44mag yesterday, I had the 445SM reamer all packaged up and ready to go in the mail to gunther66 yesterday, and Digger called to make sure I had the reamer, he told me that the floating pilot was too big for both his CVA and Contender barrel, so he rechambered them without the pilot which he said worked fine. So I decided I should check it before I sent it out in both of my 44mag barrels in case I needed to order a smaller pilot, although one is a 444 Marlin now, the pilot fit fine in the muzzle, and it rechambered the other barrel just fine, left a very smooth finish which you can't tell where the old chamber ended and the newly cut chamber starts, I don't feel it needs to be polished, looks great!  The throat allows a COL of 2.250"  which is just below the larger top cannelure on the 265gr FTX. I may get to shoot it tomorrow or Friday, depending on whether my back continues to heal, hurt myself last weekend playing with the boat smallie fishing, gettin old sure has it's caveats.

There are only 6 members on the 445SM list so far, it shipped out yesterday to the first, Midway and Grafs have the brass available which is only available once in a while, so anyone interested in making the conversion, now is the time to do it since the brass is here now. RCBS makes dies specific for the 445, but most members use 44mag dies which will neck size, I deprime with a Lee universal decapper, Hornady dies work on the pointy bullets, or you can modify the seater plug on most any seater die.

Tim

NOTE: a smaller(.4224") pilot will come on the reamer so no one should have a problem.
