Bronze Cannon Recovered from Ocean
« on: May 14, 2011, 10:12:28 AM »
Some time ago (last few years) I watched a program on TV about some seagoing treasure hunters who found a sunken British ship and their recovery of several 32 pounder bronze guns... (as memory serves) they were huge, massive things about 12-15 feet in length (looked about that long).

Does anyone in the forum have any further info on these barrels as to more accurately what they are, what they weigh, where are they now, etc., etc.  Any info would be appreciated.

Odyssey Marine exploration is the group responsible for finding the The ship in question
it is the HMS Victory lost in the 1740's the cannon was brought up to prove what ship
was at the bottom the Victory was armed with 42 pound guns.

Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

Thank you...  Thank you...  Thank you...
Looks like they are still deciding whether to bring up more of the 100 guns the ship was supposed to have... and all of them bronze.  Wow!

A lot of this has to do with the fact that this is not only a shipwreck but also
a grave site on the first attempt to bring up a cannon they went to move
what they thought was a cannon ball ...... it turned out to be a human skull...
they replaced it from where it came covered it back up and contacted the
Royal Navy for instructions on how to proceed.... they respect the history
and and those who perished on this site. Companies like this can get a bad
name fast from how they treat a site like this.
