The Ultimate 'American Choppers' Build Off
« on: June 14, 2011, 05:48:26 AM »
Does anyone watch American Choppers on the Discovery Channel? I realize many bikers are not interested in Orange County Choppers and the Tuttles. I am not a biker, but I have always been interested in the process of building the bikes they make. The metal work and creativity that goes into custom bikes from scratch. Anyway, for those who know something of the fued Sr has with Jr and all the 'drama' that has been going on for years, it has come down to a build off between the two. Cadillac has pitted the two Tuttles against eachother in a build off for chairity. After all Sr's bragging and bashing his own son, he is really getting his nose rubbed in it, (big time), on this head to head build off for the best custom chopper. Sr's entry in the build off is one of the ugliest choppers I have seen OCC put out to date. Have to wonder if this is some sort of gimmick or something for the TV show. The only thing I can like about Sr's bike is the headlight. The rest is really lame!
If you look at Jr's bike, notice there is no kickstand. He used an air suspension that just lowers the bike to the ground and sets it down on the frame. No kickstand needed!.....Pretty cool!

Anyway, if your interested, you can go to this site and check out the bidding and the two bikes and the chat about the whole deal with Sr and Jr and the bikes.

I think the bidding says it all! Jr's bike is at 110,000.00 and Sr's bike is at 23,500.00. That's just embarrassing..............

Saddlebum,

I watched the show a few times when they were working together. Have not watched since they split up. The split & associated controversy  is probably more for getting the ratings up than anything. I really don't watch much TV and don't like shows with a lot of bickering so that show did not get my support by viewing.
What I would like is a rider show with some touring. Maybe even international touring. Not much in the way of bikes on TV that really interests me. A friend of mine in high school rode a yamaha 360 enduro from Panama to florida when his dad retired from active duty. Now that was a trip the way he described it to me. I would watch a show with touring like my friends trip.

I myself am not a motorcycle enthusiast. I do like seeing how they build the customs from raw materals and from scratch. Shaping the tanks and sheet metal and using the water jet cutter to produce custom parts and stuff. Not really into alot of the wild designs of custom choppers. But it is interesting to me how they build them. I did get caught up, a little, in the 'drama' of the show though...............

Thanks for posting the link!  I hadn't seen those bikes.  Probably because I don't watch that show.  I did, but it got old in a hurry.   :-\  BTW, I think both those bikes are UGLY!!  ;)

I much preferred the "Biker Build Off" series.  Did anyone see the Indian Larry segment?  I believe it was on a "Rat Fink" like bike.  What I.L. built were real motorcycles...   "My choppers must go fast, accelerate hard, stop well, handle good, and do so without fusing my vertebrae."

I keep saying I'm gonna build myself a solo'ed out bar hopper since I ride solo most (all) the time anyway.  Kathie hates motorcycles.  ::)  just a few requirements:  96 cu. in. min. (can you say 110!?), pretty chrome fowards, neck high apes, basic bobber style.  Anything else would be as the mood strikes me.

But it will never happen...  :(  I'm old and getting older fast...  :'(

I must admit that I'm liking this ageing process less & less.  :o when my mother was approaching 90 she told me " this getting old was not as much fun as she thought it would be " I believe that sums it up for me as well.
