44 Mag Overbore
« on: May 21, 2011, 04:59:51 PM »
I needed advise on my inaccurate 2001 44 mag handi a few months ago. You guys gave me some great ideas! I slugged the bore, it was .432 which is .002 over. I was advised to find a caster to make some .432 lead bullets. I obtained some .432 cast flat nosed gas checked 250 grain bullets.
The results were a dramatic improvement in accuracy. Using lyman load data, both unique and h110 have worked great, except for POI changes. Next bullet order i will get some .433 dia. to try.
I also finally replaced the plastic sights on the .500 S&W mag. I installed a NDS38 reciever sight, a marbles .225 ramp and a .375 marbles fire sight. This set up will work on a huntsman as well.(same barrell dimensions) It took 4 months to get the ramp, but was worth the wait.It shot very well 400 grain JSP with unique powder, lyman data. Reduced load, acceptable recoil. Thank you all, Ideal 60

My over bore .44 is reamed to .445.  I got .433 GC bullets from Montana Bullet Works and they shoot well.  They chambered a little too tight.  Running them through the Lee Factory Crimp Die solved that problem.  I've got a BC Cabine stock set coming for it and I'm going to cut it to 18 inches.  Good luck and good shooting.

Pete, Montana bullets is the source i used also. Dave has good stuff, reasonable and quick. The chamber on mine is pretty loose, so no problem there. Just deprime, bell, prime and load. No resize. The rounds are a little swollen next to base but work well and no problem chambering them. Next order will be .433 also. Howard

See if he will send you about five at .433 to trial fit. Most will, it beats getting 100 that don't fit.
