8-1 is pretty scary. What's even more scary is the only one on the side of the Constitution is Ruth Bader Ginsberg  :o
"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."

It's somewhat unfortunate that the Supreme court is the last stop for constitutional questions. I was appaled at watching the last few confirmations go through congress. Alito and that "fine latino lady" interpret their new age views of what our forefathers had in mind, which is wrong. The old school is dead or dying. Individual rights and freedoms are being swept aside in the name of community good, READ socialism. Thomas Jefferson would be sick to see what has become of our constitution. Mandatory purchase of health insurance??
You got to be kidding. Etc. Etc.
The question becomes, what happens when the majority of people disagree and are fed up? Anarchy?
Someday, we will see riots in US cities, just like we see on TV today, in foreign countries.

  While it is very regrettable that the court is taking the 4th amendment so lightly, haven't the police been doing just that for decades now when they raid a house for suspected arms, drugs or both ?
      Hermit; are you sure about Judge Alito having generally "new age" views of the law ?  Surely, Roberts, Thomas and Alito have been our best chances for defense of the constitution, with the possible exception of this case..(I only say possible exception, because I haven't heard all the arguments).

Ironglow, you have a good point. I felt that Alito was very evasive during confirmation hearings and I don't believe he has old school ideals. Ginsberg raised concerns about abuses in searches with out warrants and my impression was that Alito felt if you were making strange noises behind closed doors, you were fair game, and no warrant was needed. That being the case, we might as well make it manditory to have police cameras in our homes, just in case we decide to break some law, like tearing off the label on the mattress.
I see the Supreme Court on a slippery slope, then again, maybe I'm just paranoid.   ;)

These police state/corpo decisions are lead by Roberts, Alito, and Thomas....that's why they were put on the Court in the first place.
Real Americans have big problem...

   LED by Roberts, Alito & Thomas ?  Recent SCOTUS history doesn't back you up.

  Hermit;
       While I am very disappointed at the outcome of this last vote and surprised to see Ginsberg as the lone holdout, it does raise questions.  Roberts and Thomas are about as clear bastions for the constitution as we've had over recent years, but you cause me to wonder about Alito.

   With the far-out nutcase BHO tried to appoint to the ninth circus court yesterday, we have our most cogent reason nfor ousting this dude, come 2012.

With Republicans controlling the House, they will reject every candidate for SC, just as the Dems did when they were in power. Politics as usual. This is what I mean when I say that the old school, common sense approach to appointments and government, have gone out the window. The best candidates won't be nominated. Instead it will be a political hack.
Politicians on both sides appear to be in a locked power grab, instead of looking for the country's best interest. Maybe that radio guy is right and the world will end tommorrow.  ;D    Things are about to get worse.
TM7, don't be surprised to see another revolution in the US.
