I don't know first hand. But a friend that lived in Alaska bought one in 375 ruger for a bear hunt. He said his shot good. He killed a couple of black bears with it before he moved south. I never saw the gun or got to shoot it though.
He is very gunsavy though and has even hunted Africa a couple of times, I trust his judgement.

I see some All weather or Stainless offered by one on the wholesalers here in Ontario Canada , but I am sure they are being discontinued in favour of the 338 F.
I find Rugers shoot pretty good though some require a bit of tweeking .

When I bought the tikka in 338 F , ruger did not chamber the 358 W otherwise it would have been the Ruger 358W - So what does that tell you ?

My wife has a Mark 2 in '06 that we bought 12 years ago . We scoped it , had the trigger tuned abit , and it has only required cleaning after she shot an animal . Sighting as always been on every year .
Ruger has always been a go to gun !!

???
Ruger did chamber 358 Win off and on for the 77 series.  And many of the models were chambered for it.
I often thought one would be great.  Then really looked at the ballistics of it and 338 Federal vs. 308 and all the options for the 308 and I am kind of sold on 308 as a short action brush and more rifle.
and more if I wanted something with more horse power or a wider hole, I would look at 338 Win Mag or 375 H&H.

With Black bear the 30/30 does get the job done . The 358 W has just about the right power and makes a big enough  hole to make a pass though where the animal is easy to track .Yes the 338 W or 375 H& H does get the job done too , but most guys want the meat and hide , not just a dead animal .
What you see on paper does not always play out in the bush . The 35 REM comes to mind . Ask any one who hunts with one , if maybe the 30/ 30 would be a better gun .

Bought a .358 Win Hawkeye as soon as I saw they were being made.  Mine shoots super with my handload using H322 and any 200gr bullet.  Mounted a Leupold VXII, 1x4x20mm on it and it's about as nice a rig as I own.  I got the
blued walnut stocked offering.  Have two other .358 Winchester's.  One is an 18.5" barrelled 760 pump that used to be a .35 Rem and the other is a custom built on a Rem 700 short action.
Top to Bottom: Remington 673, 350 Rem Mag.  Remington 700 Classic .35 Whelen.  Savage 110 with A&B .35 Whelen barrel.  Custom 358 on a 700 short action.  Rem 760 pump rechambered to .358 Win.  Ruger Hawkeye in .358 Win.

I am not arguing with you.  the old 30-30 is a game killer, 35 Rem too.  i think more to do with the round nose bullets than the horse power.  I think 308 with 180 grain round nose bullets are the perfect under 200 yards big game round.  They are easy to find in most sporting good stores and a cost effective optiolton.  As far as a bolt gun goes why not get the added horse power of a 308 over the 30-30?  So far my 338 WM has not torn up game.  Not even jellied the meat.  just a pinky sized hole in and index finger exit.  the boiler room was a mess on my first hog but nothing too gooey.  They use 375H&H in africa for even the small antelope and it does not make a mess of them.  I see more 338 and 375 in shops than any of the 35's.

If a guy wants to put up with the recoil of a 338 or 375 they work fine. Personally though neither caliber is really needed for north american game, with the exception of the big bears and those can be taken quite handily with a 30/06.

As far as the 308 winchester, I hunted extensively for quite a few years with one and killed everything from deer to elk with never a problem.
I used 165gr serria boattail bullets for deer & antelope and 180gr core-loks for elk & black bear..  :o Worked for me....
