USFA and Long Hunter Supply
« on: April 08, 2011, 11:29:27 AM »
I'm bound and determined to get my 2 SAA's tuned and slicked up sometime soon.  As I had heard good things about Finch's work and the price is reasonable I thought I'd use them.  After finding their web page again I noticed **Temporarily not accepting orders for USFA’s due to manufacturer’s inability to deliver.**

Is there something going on with USFA?

Any complaint's with Finch's work on SAA clones?

That's interesting, and plays into what I found at a store in Newington, CT, just down the road from USFA in Hartford.  They had been/are a big USFA dealer,  and last year had several Rodeos on hand, as well as quite a few examples  of the various  high end versions.   I was in there last week to look for/at a Rodeo, and there was one Rodeo Sheriff's model,  one Rodeo II Sheriff's , and a 357 mag Shooting Master. That was it.   When asked if more were coming in, the answer was a shrug and "We expect some  to come in within the next couple of months. Check back the end of May."

Hummmm...    Curiouser and curiouser.  :-\

I'd hate to see them go under.  I've never so much as held one but from everything I've heard they make the best SAA out there.  Their SAA is what I'd get if I was to get another.

Long Hunter Supply used to sell them with their action job thrown in.  That action job is what I want to have done to mine.  Anybody used them?

I don't think USFA is going under, I saw a post on the USFA forum that they are having trouble with the Nickle plating. Go over there & look at the post. It's by the admin.

I got in on their end of the year deal with the extra cylinder for no charge. They said it would be ready middle of Feb. and they were right on time. I sure like it, a REAL SAA!

Just my luck. I have been trying to choose between getting a current production Colt or a USFA and now neither appears to be available. :(

I have a pair of ruger bisley varquero that I bought from Longhunter 2 years ago!! I shoot CASS and they are the SWEETEST ACTION I have ever used!! The Longhunter action job is worth every penny and you will not find a more friendly man to deal with anywhere!!

YES send your gun to Longhunter, but be careful because when you get it back you will by sending all your SA revolvers to him for action jobs!!

Thanks TG!  It seems to me that people here had good things to say about him and you just confirmed that!   :D  Guess I'll give him a call about sending one his way.   ;)

I have two revolvers I purchased from Longhunter, a Ruger new vaquero bisley and a USFA rodeo II. Both have his action job and are wonderful. My original idea was to buy one of each, see which one I liked best, sell the other and get a second of the favorite. Did not work out that way, I liked them both so much I kept both and use them together. I get some funny looks and questions from folks somtimes, but don't really have any problems switching from one to the other.  God Bless.

I have purchased two sets of USFA revolvers from Jim Finch aka Long Hunter. The guns and Jim's work are the best to be had. The problem is with the owner of USFA, Doug Connely. He was born a multi milloniare and decided he wanted to buy the old Colt Factory and build guns. This is the good part as he has done this country a big favor. It got Colt off it's butt and let them know that they had true competition. The bad part is that Doug has failed to realize what made his company. He goes into different directions all the time by making and designing guns that he feels are needed. He fails to allow his stock to build before doing these things that tie up the entire line of workers. Anyone remember the different desert colored Rodeo's? No store that is a stocking dealer has guns on hand and the wait may be over 6 months. It has given Jim who built his business on the guns a very hard time. He is the one trying to explain to the customers what is going on. Jim Finch is one of the nicest guys to work with but he can't do anything about the supply.

I don't know anything about the Longhunter situation but I have recently ordered 2 guns directly from USFA through my FFL and have had no problems.  Guns were delivered on schedule and both were top-notch.  I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.  I think any rumors about them going under are way over-blown and have no basis in fact.
