Newbee

Hi all!
New to the forum and a brand new Contender owner(ie don't know snot!). Bought a original Contender frame and grip for $160, 86774sn. Is this a good price? Where can I get an owners manual or other book that shows how to disassemble/ clean the gun, tried the TC site but they don't seem to list the original contender manual as a download. I'm planning on buying a carbine barrel in 223, any thoughts? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Welcome to the Contender addiction.  This may be your first, but if you are like most of the rest of us the collection grows!  If your frame is in good shape it is well worth the price paid.  The sn you posted would place it in the middle of 1978.  It may be modified to easy open, but is still neat even if it is original.  A couple of my frames are unmodified early frames and they shoot too!

If you look down the forums a bit you will find a TC rifles forum, and that is the place to ask about carbine barrels.

If you give TC a call they will send you free of charge a manual for your Contender.  Let them know that it is a Contender, not a G2.

Have fun with it!

They should ask for the serial number in order to give you the correct manual.  That's how it worked for me, but that was quite a few years ago.

As Keith said, welcome to Contenderdom!!  That is an excellent price for your frame, I would have jumped all over it even though I already have four frames.

A big welcome to the forum and welcome to Tenders!

I am still a newbie myself (in my mind) ...... I bought a frame and grip from a friend and paid 200 so I think you did very well!

Did TC tell you if your frame was shipped as a pistol or a rifle?  If not, I'd ask.

You can also check out the legal aspects here.

According to the ATF, you can go from pistol to rifle but not back again.  Sounds crazy but then we are talking the Federal government here.  I did not read where a rifle barrel denotes the change .... it's a butt stock that is the issue.

In my mind, an added bonus of the Tender/Encore was to be able to go back and forth but it's advised that one owns a "pistol" frame and "rifle" frame ....... it's always something!

Not trying to rain on your parade, just give a caution ...........

Good luck with that Tender!

Welcom to the madness of the TC line (Tender / Encore)
As for what forarm it depends on what leanth the barrel is a 12 and 14 forarm will enterchange
you will need a different one for a 10 or shorter barrel.

An e-z solution to the rifle/pistol problem is two frames [at least 2]. No barrels under 16inch with a stock. What is the maximum number of barrels you will want? There is no maxmum, your only limit is economic.
