I took a little time to go to the range this morning. It was a nice morning, cool, little to no wind and I had the range to myself. I just received a complete contender rifle with 23" 223 Rem barrel bought from a member here. The main reason I bought it was for the frame. I already had a buttstock and I have a Kimber in 223 Rem. I decided I at least needed to try the contender out so if I post the barrel for sale I would know how it shot. I took the TC and the Kimber to shoot side by side and grabbed up some loads with RL15 and a Sierra 53 gr match bullet. First shot at 50yds from the TC was not far off so I adjusted a few clicks and turned to the 100 yd target and shot a five shot group. Not bad but not being use to shooting off a bipod I took it off. I then shot a 5 shot group with the Kimber. (Not bad a little under .5" CTC) Then I shot a second group with the TC off the rest instead of the bipod. Now comes the bad part of the day. The 5 shot group was a little under .7". I know I only shot two groups with it but this barrel looks like it is a shooter. Oh, and the stock that came on the gun (and that I shot it with) is a youth stock and is a little short for me but I did not want to change it before going to shoot. Now I have to decide whether to sell the barrel or keep it. Why do these bad things always happen to me.
