Scope mounts on a bar
« on: May 31, 2011, 06:27:14 AM »
I'm back with some questions. I've never learned all the different types of mounts for scopes and just realized my problem. I've got my bar and it came with mounts. The wife went with me to Cabela's (she may never do that again) on Monday. While checking out the bargain cave i spotted the scope I've wanted. It has a rail type mount that has to be used.  Now i need a lower rail that screws on the gun. Whats it name? Is there a tall, medium, short i have to worry about? What about the spent shells missing all this? Its my dream gun and scope so i have got to do this. I just don't know whats next to get them together. Oh yea, Cabela's didn't have the right mounts to finish the job. So they recommended trying some other online stores. Thx. Bob

Here is a Picatinny rail base for the BAR.  You would use any scope rings that fit the Picatinny rail.  Bases are one size you can get rings in low med high and extra high.

I use the Leupold base with high extension rings since my scope has a 42mm objective. The extension rings allow me to set the eye relief where it should be.  If my gun didn't already have the Leupold base on it when I bought it I would have put the picatinny rail on it.  You have a whole lot more option with the picatinny rail

AFAIK, scope rings will not fit a scope with a bottom rail.

If the scope of your dreams has an integral rail built into it's lower surface, there are two things you can do:

Inquire of the scope maker, what base(s) to obtain/where.

Have a gunsmith measure the rail's clamping width, and whip up a 6" long, one-piece rail that will take the scope on top, and have holes drilled in it that match the pattern of the BAR's scope mount holes.  The underside of the custom base will also (of course) be need to contoured to match the slight curve of the BAR's receiver top, side-to-side.

The make/model info on your scope clears the air considerably.

If you had looked at the Burris website, and examined the pic of the Eliminator's mounting rail, you should see that the scope was issued with Weaver-type mounting/clamps that fit thousands of different Weaver-type bases, aka Weaver rails.

Simply spend $10 on a set of Weaver bases for your BAR (direct, or from Midway, Brownell's, or a LGS), and enjoy yourself.
