Greetings:

I want to load up some 115 grain Nosler BTST's for my 25-06. I need a few ideas on where to start with my loads. Lots of stuff around for 100 grain, 117 grain and 120 grain. I need some loads for 115 grain. Thanks for any help you can share.

Forgot to mention that I want to use H4831sc, or Varget. Nosler lists some powders/loads but nothing I have or am familiar with. Thanks again.

I used Re 22, but I think you could start with Serria loads for the 117 BT and go from there..I have done that in the past..but you may want to call Nosler..

Hodgdon is the manufacture for your powder. The 117 grains is the logical starting point for your 115 grain bullet.

I love Varget in other cartridges, but not in this one, esp over 100 grain bullets.

Your comment about Nosler not listing familiar powders sounds like their on-line data, that data sucks & I don't know why they bothered, they say it is from their number 6, but what sorry choices.

But actually from the Nos. number 6 they used IMR 4831, which is a little faster than H4831. Like WY CH said, you could use Sierra 117 data, which shows a MAX of 52 gr. @ 3100. As always start lower & work up. Hodgdon data shows the same max with a much slower vel, which happens alot when you compare data and rifles. Vel up in the 3100 range though is very realistic with 24' or longer barrels.

In the std. 25-06 I loaded some for my son last summer with RL25, we got 3225fps with his 26" Sendero & safely. It proved deadly on 2 Whitetails for him last fall. Retumbo is another good one for 115gr & up.

I only mention these other powders in case H4831 does not do well in your particular rifle but H4831 should do fine.

Use the H4831. The 25-06 likes max charges of the slower burning powders. 52 grs H-4831 has always been very accurate and fast with 115 to 120 gr bullets. 49 grs of IMR 4350 also works very well. Work up to these in your rifle.

4831 is what I use with 100 gr bullets . It was listed in the Nosler reloading manual as most accurate load for the 100 gr. BT . I would try their MAL for the 115 if it were me.

re19 and re17 will also work good in it. 17 shows some real promise and i want to fool with it more myself this spring along with the new hogdon 4000.

I shoot the 115 grain partitions. I tried h4831 and could not get a good accurate load. I went to Imr 4831 and shooting 50.5 grains, they are very accurate out of my encore. Very deadly on whitetails.

26 deer all with nosler a book load --does nolser not list 4831? being sc does not matter-- varget is not bad but not the best- oh i used 49 gr of 4350 with 115 gr bt

I use IMR and AA with the same data in my 25-06. I use 49 grs in a Rem case with a cci 250 primer and the 117 Sierra Pro hunter for 3000 fps. They both shoot into the same POI from 100 to 300 yards which is as far as I have put them on paper and they shoot 1/2 moa or less. They shoot the same velocity with in the parameter of what two different lot numbers of powder would be.

4831 is also a great powder in the 2506 and so are all of the 4350s. Personaly 4350 is about as fast of a burning powder as i would fool with though.

they shot pourly in my #1. I didnt try them in the 700 though.

I've worked up some loads with it in my 257 Imp. and RL22 and Hybrid 100V. If I push it to max accuracy falls off, shoots very good to excellent at 3100fps. These are the factory 2nd bullets by the way.

Nosler makes an excellent reloading book, they even have data specifically for 115gr bullets, go figure.

what ive found with about all of the 25 cal rifles i own is if they wont shoot a 117 seirra well they usually just dont shoot well.

well i am waiting for my 25-06 handi rifle with barrel to come back and was going to start my own post. Here is my question. I have a 243 and a 708 and 270. I love the sectional density of the 25 bullets which is why I am getting it. Even the 100 grain has a .216 sd. I will only be shooting deer. would like to shoot the 120 and am wondering about powders myself. H4350 has been working great in all the other calibers i have but would like to slow this down to give me something that recoil would fall between the 243 and 708. Any suggestions on powder for 120 bullets that still would be accurate in say the 2700 per sec range.

A full house load in a 25-06 will be in the middle of the 243 and 7-08 in the recoil. There is no need to load it down. If you are deer hunting use either the 115 Nosler BT or the Sierra 117 gr bullet. BANG FLOP 99% of the time. Your H-4350 will work fine just follow the book loads and start low and work up.

When I had my 2506, I tried the usual powders. 4350 wasn't one of my rifle's faves. It seemed to like the slower powders. H4831, H1000 and IMR7828 was what I had sitting around and all worked great with the H4831 giving a little better groups. These powders were loaded behind 120gr Sieras and some Hornady 115gr bullets. I never messed with any of the lighter bullets so I can't make any advisements on them.
Recoil in the 25s I've shot has never been much more than that of a 243.
