Gary Michie built a full scale mountain howitzer that he had bronze plated, and 'bpsteve' did the same with his half scale mt. howitzer.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Thanks for your quick answer , I found that a lot of the shops in the northwest don't do bronze plating anymore . I was interested in tracking down who still did . moose53   ;D

Moose53, there is a shop that did brass and bronze powder coating a few years ago, located between Coquille and Myrtle Point, on Highway 42. It is a good tough finish.  Don't know if that would give you the same result...I'll try and check it out and get back to you, if your interested. .... BoomLover

I've seen some great applications of 'powder coating'. As far as bronze plating, you might look up bronze plating of baby shoes. It used be a big thing.

WHat about folks that do spray metalizing?  (Spraying the metal at many hundreds of degrees F on a slow turning lathe).  It's often done with stainless steel, so bronze would be a matter of changing out the wire feed and getting the coating thickness right.

Gary Michie was kind enough to send me some service photos of his howitzer . The photos show something very well that I had over looked . Black powder makes a mess of polished bronze . If you don't want to polish every time you shoot, powder coating may be the way to go . Spray metalizing may react the same as plating when it comes to keeping clean.

There was a confederate mt. riflle done in spray bronze last year. looked pretty good. Think the guys were from Canada.
