454 and CP 360 grain
« on: June 16, 2011, 04:47:21 AM »
I picked up a box of Cast Performance 360 grain .452 bullets on closeout special.  I thought they might be fun to play with.  Is anybody using this bullet?  Please share your experience and maybe your favorite load -- any power level.

That bullet over 23.5 gr H110 in my 7.5 inch M83 was very accurate and was chronoed at 1300 fps. I have not hunted with it as yet. Should work well.

I'm running that exact same load in my 5" super redhawk. Getting 1280fps, plenty of power.

Doesn't sound like many folks are running the 360s as their hunting load.  Anybody using the 335 gr LBT for their primary hunting load?  My gun sure likes the Cast Performance 335g WLNGC.

Yes, my gun likes the 335 gr bullet also---a good bit of power and a lot less recoil than the 360 gr. For most of my hunting with my FA 7.5 inch gun, I settled on the FA 260 gr bullet...but now I may have to use the Barnes 250 gr XPB since I moved back to The Peoples Republic of Kali. :-[

I use the 335 gr. bullets in my F-A .454.  I recently "chrono'd" them at 1570 fps!

Flatgate,
What powder are you using to get 1570 fps with the 335g?  I can't find anything published that will get my 6" FA83 over 1250 fps.  Do you know of any data?

Palgeno,
I am curious about the Barnes -  Have you found a load you like?   Have you used them hunting yet?

My 6" 83 does about 1425 fps using the max load of w 296 from the Hodgdon webpage. I think in a model 83 you could go higher than the listed charge, but the loading gate on mine  starts opening under recoil...

HGunner....I used the Cast Performance data enclosed with the 335 RNFPGC...24.5 gr H110and a CCI #450 primer---avg was 1338fps. I haven't yet bought the Barnes 250 gr XPB to try. I will only go to this if hunting in the Condor "refuge". I am told it works very well in the FA revolver. I still have a ton of the FA 260 gr bullets. They go out at an easy 1800 fps and are very accurate in my 7 1/2 inch gun.
