93r17 light barrel vs Heavy Barrel
« on: May 27, 2011, 06:25:44 PM »
Does anyone have experience with both of these in 17HMR?  I am going to get one or the other and I wondered how the lightweight barreled model shot compared to the bull barrel.

Thanks

I have the light barrel and it overlaps groups at 75yrs.  Love that Savage and that caliber!

I have shot 200 rounds straight through my standard barrel with grouping going unchanged. There isnt a whole lot of powder in these little cartridges to heat it up

I have the lightest, cheapest 93-17 and it groups as well as any of the heavier barreled models.  Mine has the accu trigger.
Excellent little shooter.

unless you're a real serious bench shooter, the sporter barrel should be the choice.
another question.  when the heavy barrel finally gets hot, wouldn't it take a lot longer to cool than a slim barrel?

I can't say anything about the sporter weight, but my bull barrelled .17 Savage is a awesome shooter. I have lost count of the groundhogs that I have thinned out of my food plots. Awesome terminal performance out to 100-120 yards. Chucks are DRT. Mine has accutrigger as well.
