Had enough Rain, Please !
« on: May 15, 2011, 02:48:24 AM »
Just got dried up here for the first time since Feb. this past week and got to mow for the first time this year. Last 2 days  I got another 2+ inches of rain and back to where I was all spring.
The ground was still saturated and cant take no more.
Really compared to the people along the Mississippi river we are fortunate.

I'm thinking that I may have to trade Mama's van in for a BOAT , been able to mow twice now , both times with the deck set to high limit and pushing grass with the front of the deck , we were able to do some landscaping in the raised beds just off the patio , but the shade garden is still way too wet , may have to teach my Hosta's to swim .  :o

Worst part is the gun club is just a swamp , even the pistol side is way too muddy to even walk to the target stands = yuck , guess I'll have to just keep loading & casting .  ;D

Weather service is forecasting rain for only 5 of the next 7 days in NW Ohio.  Must be a drought comin'! ;D

You mean that grass is supposed to be dry before you mow it???? Most of the time I`ve mowed this year my mower has looked like a jet, except the vapor trail was comming out the side instead of the back. I`ve mowed our grass 6 time so far and I think 1 time it was almost dry.

The past 5 days it has managed to rain a little more each day.  I have had a large sump pump running 24/7 for the past week now in the low areas of my yard and now have it pumped down to about only a 1/2 acre that is still standing water.
The county mosquito control people were out treating the water standing in my woods yesterday, it is over 12" deep in some areas out back.
I believe what Bikerbeans said, we are probably lookin for a drought in mid summer, back in 1999 we had almost no rain for 5 months after Memorial day and  in late October everything was browned out and I had a grass fire that spread fast and by the time the fire trucks came and put it out I lost several dozen evergreen shrubs and some small nut tree s that I paid a good price for.  Last summer there were several tornado's that hit up in this area that did a good bit of damage.
Sure seems like the older I get the more weather related disasters are just a everyday occurrence somewhere in the US.  Just got to take it day by day.     Jed

Jedman, I believe Bikerbeans is going to be right. The weather patterns are going to shift, and in 4-6 weeks, we'll be looking for rain. Next 6-8 days their not predicting any rain, so I'm hoping to get out back and finish my chicken coup, and get my garden in. I remember last year I didn't have much hope for my garden, as it was the first week of June when I got it in. But, it turned out pretty good. But, I was hauling water 2-3 times a week by the middle to the end of July.
Just read the fishing report for Lake Erie, as we don't have the boat in the water yet, but, it looks like we're not missing much. Lake is so stirred up from wind and all the water coming in from the rivers, fisherman are having to go clear up into Canadian waters to get any fish. (that brings walleye fillets up to about $80-$90 a lb.) gypsyman
We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!!Remember(12/7/41)(9/11/01) gypsyman

So it would seem that walleye fillets at Krogers for $19.99/lb are a good deal.  I did notice however, that if I tip a cold one while walleye "fishing" at Krogers, that manager does get a little irritated. ;D
