I'm still only a couple weeks out from pneumonia and I'll likely be weak as a kitten for at least a few more weeks but I couldn't stand not to shoot the new guns I've bought both before and since I got sick.  One of my shooting buddies picked me up for the outing and I pitched in a 20 for gas and bought lunch.

I way over packed for the trip.  I took 3 other non NEF rifles and one of my revolvers.   My friend started out shooting his new .44 mag revolver and quickly decided he would rather have either .44 special rounds or reduced .44 mag loads.  So we shot all his ammo and some of mine in the carbine.  At first we would both shooting really tight groups with it at 50 yards with it but we both got tired and the groups grew and we both shot a few fliers.   I am 100% sure the group sizes can mostly be contributed to us both being beat up old men.  When we did our part, getting bulls eyes at 50 yards was the norm.  The only other problem with the gun is it's all black and the front site is a little hard to see. 

We both forgot stuff he forgot his shooting rest and I didn't bring my spotting scope.  I'm looking forward to shooting this rifle from a rest to see what it'll really do but honestly I think we could have gotten under 1" groups if we weren't wiggling around so much.  My shooting buddy had heart surgery 3 months ago and we're really a pair of weaklings right now. 

After shooting the .44, I didn't have much energy left and I couldn't properly hold up my varmint gun and I was too tired to go back and forth to the target to see the small holes from my other rifles so we called it a day.  Anyway forgive my rambling post but the bottom line is I love my .44 carbine even if I can't get it to shoot cast slugs later on...

I kinda reached a point where I was in need of a very expensive high power spotting scope to see little bullet holes, then decided to just shoot bigger dia. bullets and keep the scope I already have, sometimes I dont even need it.

glad you got out and had a good day at the range.  gcrank is right on the big bores, if you can't see holes at 100 yards then you missed!

My buddy almost bought the farm after his triple-bypass.   The pharmacist at the VA hospital f'ed up his meds and the paramedics had to do CPR on him.   Anyway a month out of the hospital (second time in) he couldn't wait any longer to shoot the '06 he bought just before his surgery but the docs told him not to shoot it for another 3 months.  I loaded up some cast bullet popgun loads and took him shooting.  So I guess today he was returning the favor.  One thing that came out of today's shoot is he is now shopping for a Handi in 44 mag... 

I may try shooting my .223 varmint rifles again in the next couple months but only if I can shoot it from a rest.  There's no way I can hold one up right now.

Anyway the 2 new bullet molds I've ordered may or may not be here in time for me to cast up some bullets for next time so I bought a box of Hornaday 240g hollow points...

The importance of having a dream, or bucket list, whatever you call it cant be discounted. The docs told us (me heart, wife cancer) that attitude and 'purpose' was about as important as anything they could do.

you  guys   might consider a bi-pod  on your guns

the more i use them   the more  i wonder  why  they are not on all my rifles

can  i recommend  the ruger  charger...rest  it on the hood of your truck.....with a  50 round clip
[no  don't  try  it.....not  enough  exercize.....tooooo easy]

I plan to buy a one or 2 bi-pods later this year.  I'd like to by 4 of them but I don't know how many more gun buys I can get past my wife without here finding out about it...  I'd like to eventually have bi-pods on all 3 of my varmint rifles and one more to switch out among my other rifles.  The .44 Handi didn't come with sling swivels and I'll have to put on a set before it can use a bi-pod.

I'm thinking serous about a rear peep for the .44 but that won't be for a while.  While I don't like open sights, I can use them with a little more concentration... 

Like on my .223 ultra Handi, my .223 bolt gun needs higher rings.  I put high rings on the ultra to start with but I had to try the other with what it had first and I can't seem to crane my old neck that low...

Great range report.  Glad to hear about guys getting out and having some fun.

If you are looking for bipods, I've bought a couple of the leapers UTG OP1's from Cheaper than dirt for $22 bucks and I've been very happy with them.  These are way too nice to ever seriously paying for another harris bipod.

Thanx about the heads up on the Leapers bi-pods.  At the price they sell for, I wasn't sure if they were worth buying.  A 22 bucks, I don't have to explain it...

I think I would need something normally mounted on a ship if was going to be able to positively see the holes at 100 yards.  ;D  I can see .44 holes at 50 years with a little squinting.  Anyway that's why I bought a spotting scope... 

Hopefully I'll have another range report in a week or two...
