Congrats on the elk permit! May the elk and the weather gods look kindly down upon you.

We in Wyoming should hear about our elk and antelope licenses about a week before July 4th. Chances are pretty good, I think.

Haven't drawn a tag for many years now.  Last time we did, the family drew a total of nine "any elk" tags here in Idaho, and didn't fill a single one.  I flat out gave up trying to pull an antelope or moose tag here.
Now, I buy the "NEW elk"tag. Like sixty is the "new" forty, I figure that wolves are the "new" elk.  Doubt they taste as good, but it seems recently, that I'm more likely to run into one of them mangy bastards than I would wapiti, so, for the three years that they've been available, I've purchased over the counter "Idaho Grey Wolf" (the Old Canadian Grey Wolf) tags.
In fact, gomerdog, the last bull I shot (a VERY tasty rag-horn five point) was over above Baggs, a couple of speed goats west of Wheatland, and a big cow Shirras moose above the Gray's River over the ridge from Star Valley, when I was stationed at FE Warren!

Seriously, Quickdtoo, Good Luck to you and your party!
I told my pap and mam I was going to be a mountain man; acted like they was gut-shot. "Make your life go here, son. Here's where the people is. Them mountains is for Indians and wild men." "Mother Gue", I says "the Rocky Mountains is the marrow of the world," and by God, I was right. Keep your nose in the wind and your eye along the skyline
