Add a 9 mm cyl. to a Blackhawk 357 mag.
« on: July 11, 2011, 04:55:49 AM »
A few weeks ago i got a New Mod. Blackhawk in 357 mag. It was missing the front frame screw and ejector rod, housing, screw and spring. It lookes worn but the chambers and bore were nice. It is a project gun . After getting all the needed parts and making repairs and a good cleaning it shot well.
So over the weekend i found a 9mm cyl. at a gun show and decided to see if it would fit . It did but was to tight to rotate as freely as it should. So now its at the gunsmith getting fitted , as he put it tight is better than lose in these cases .
When all is said and done total cost is close to 304.00 ( can't remember the change ) .
 Was it worth it ?

I recently paid $469 for a brand new .357/9mm Blackhawk convertible.  It's a 4 5/8" blued with black plastic grips.  I think you did pretty good.

Years ago I had one and it shot well , the 9mm cyl wasn't as accurate as the 357 one but still good . The recoil was like a 22 mag or less . The one I'm working with is 4-5/8's . 9mm is about as cost effective as ammo gets for center fire here .

I sent an old stainless 4 5/8" .357 NMBH to Ruger to get it rebuilt and add a 6 1/2" barrel. I also asked for a 9mm cylinder which they provided. The gun is very accurate in .357 and much more accurate than I expected in 9mm, at least with CCI Blazer ammo. You can have fun with inexpensive 9mm ammo. You got a pretty descent deal.
