Broken Transfer Safety Bar

Well, after 27 years, I have finally experienced the first problem with my .41 mag Blackhawk.  The transfer safety bar just snapped right off. Is this something a gunsmith can fix or will it have to be sent to Ruger?

  Just order a new one from either Ruger (if they'll sell one to a non-gunsmith) or from Midway, etc.  After 27 ys, you should know how to change one out.

The transfer bar is the most likely piece to break in a Ruger single action.  Contact Ruger and they may send you a new one at no charge.  T-bars often break from dry firing but not necessarily.

A simple "fitting" procedure with your new replacement will pretty much insure it'll never happen again.

You can leave the cylinder out but install the base pin and, of course, your new transfer bar.

Cock the hammer then pull the trigger.   Hold the trigger back while inspecting the hammer's position in the hammer well.
Slowly release the trigger, allowing it to move forward to it's "at rest" position.  Watch the hammer while doing this. If the hammer
moves deeper into the hammer well then the transfer bar is "pinched".  The face of the New Model hammer has a couple of "steps".
You need to file the "transfer bar" step deeper and try the test again.  Continue until the hammer does NOT move during the test.
Voila! The transfer bar is no longer pinched between the hammer and the hammer well when firing the New Model.

Glad to see that it was pointed out that the transfer bar needs to be a slip fit under the hammer. A suggestion tho- the transfer bar is cheaper and easier to modify using a flat hard stone. Thus I recommend, if needed, the hammer not be bothered. If the new transfer bar yields misfires, tho, the top step of the hammer can be stoned a little to allow for more firing-pin protrusion. Having the gun that long suggests that this won't be needed.

Sending it to Ruger would probably be the cheapest option. They typically go through the whole gun and make it all work perfectly at little or no extra charge.

Have you sent a handgun anywhere lately ? The UPS cost are inflated .
I just ordered an ejector rod , spring,housing and screw for a Blackhawk also a frame screw all for $23.00 including shipping . Shipping a gun alone would be double or more.
