I bought one of those 555 packs of Win. ammo from Wal Mart on my way home from vacation..figured I would shoot it up at rocks, gophers, starlings, etc. in my old 5 screw K 22.. I must have shot about 50 rounds, when I went to clean a bunch of pistols and rifles this eve..when I went to whip out the K, there was rough area pushing the dry patch though the barrel just before it cleared the barrel...When I looked down the bore, a thick circle of black crud encircled the area where the bullet first enters the barrel...I couldn't believe it...I felt a few quick passes with solvent and a wire brush would solve the problem....it didn't I got some of this stuff out, but it still had a build up of crud...I tried all my usual tricks..even JB Bore paste would not eliminate this stuff....I got some out , but not all finally after trying Bore Teck, I wiped it with Rem. oil and left the patch stuck in the area of crud on the ram rod....When I finally went back and took the patch out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
most of this junk was gone..I have more oil in the bore now, but I NEVER ran into this before...Anyone else have this problem?
?? Once years ago, I bought a bunch of WW .22 shells that were lead, no copper..they caused my single six to lead to the point it was inaccurate, but it cleaned out quickly with a brush...I never ran into this before....
