I just kinda wanted to get some other folks thoughts, How do you think a bolt action rifle would fair in the market? Think it might have a niche?

I think it would be great for varmints. Savage is suppose to have one. Look under caliber.

I just wanna say that's just awesome. I had heard rumors of CZ making one but nothing. Savage beat them all to the punch.  I thnk it fill the gap between 17hmr and 22 hornet and you can reload it.

I really don't know if the round will hang around for the duration though. They are about 38 cents a round at the cheapest I can find them. The 5.56 is 20 cents a round, again the cheapest I see. So almost double and about 1000 fps less. I do have a 5.7 and have the model 25 on order. It is only because a fellow I worked with got fired and sold ammo and a ps90 at an insane price. I plan on using the model 25 as a farm gun for varmints. If I had to pay the current price of ammo I would just stick with my shot out 5mm Craig. BTW a 5.45x39 model 25 is supposed to be coming out later as well.

Well the way i see it is a bolt gun is not going to need the laquer case and I plan on doing some tests with my p90 to see how hot a load can be run with ou the laquer needed to aka Help extraction.  If bolt guns are mde then remington, winchester, federal etc. will have to get on the ball and start making ammo for it. I know federal loads all he FN ammo as of now (ss197)  so the cost of ammo will come down.

The 5.7 round faster than the 22WMR and a bit under in velocity of a round out of a 22 Hornet rifle would fit in my gun case.  A  low muzzle blast .224 ,that is lower than the blast from a  Hornet or 221 Fireball would work well for the close shots at prairie dogs.

I like the idea but when there's the 223. and 22 hornet I think it will flop.

Savage so far is vaper-ware. No one has seen one.

5.7x28 ia $20 fro a box of 50
.223. is about $8 a box of 20 of the same ( Varmint tipped not FMJ)
You can get .223 for around $6 a box for FMJ which make it a little less expensive.

The both take the same bullet and primer so reloading cost is very close.

I have a 5.7x28 Encore which is less expensive than a 17hmr to shoot.

And yes with the number of riffles and pistols in military use it will be around a while.

Nope.

OUT OF STOCK When you try to place an order.

No one can get them yet. No one over on the Fivesevenforum has actually seen one either.

This topic has popped up a few times.
I think a rifle would sell.
A small action like the Ruger 77/22 would be a great platform.
It would be just like a WSM version of 22 Hornet (same Velocity smaller action) and the 22 Mag actions would be a great size.
The key questions are will a small action for 22 Mag handle the pressure of the 5.7X28.
But I see platform as the problem
The other micro bolt action is the CZ 527 but a lot of waisted space as it is sized to shoot a 45mm Case.
As I already have a 22 Hornet and 22 mags in may gun closet, I do not think I would be in the market. But I will never say never.

I just got back from South Dakota shooting. The 5.7x28 worked out great. It was good to about 200 yards with some shots out to 300 yards.
My 17hmr was only good out to 150 yards due to the high winds we were having. At 300 yards I was holding 6" high and 24" to the right with the 5.7x28 which was dead on at 200 yards.

Reloading the 5.7 x 28 would be dirth cheap.  You should be able to do better than the cost of the 22 mag rimfire.  I am wondering how durable the brass would be.

Fired in a bolt gun should last a while. But in the FiveSeven the shoulder gets moved back each time and work hardens the brass.

The Ruger 77/xxx is probably the the way to go.  Even if Ruger dont want to do them.  After market magazine and bolt face should be able to be modified to acomodate a new chambering.  The 77/22H platform should be able to be used.  For other chamberings such as the 218 Bee, 22 Rem Jet, 327 Fed or the 224 Cassull can be worked out from the new 77/357 platform.  Lots of options there.
