stopping by a shop today I found a jc higgins rifle in 308 win, with parker hale engraved on the top of the barrel.
it appeared to be a mauser action with a very nice straight grained walnut stock with weatherby style grip caps and forend cap.
bluing was good, no blemishes I could find, stock obviously used but not abused and in good shape.
it mounted a centerpoint scope 3-9 with a side parallax adjustment on rings that were too high by far for me but I thought it intresting.
can anyone tell me what I was holding, it looked to be a well made and finished weapon and maybe worth the 450 asking price.
I know that jc higgins was the sears brand before the ted williams name was applied to sears outdoor products in 1961, I have a higgins 9 shot revolver that has provided many years of service.
but I cannot find a parker hale reference related to higgins.
