Winter Howling?

Got a Lohman 285 howler for CHRISTmas.Will a coyote respond to a howler this time of year? Tried it out after dark the other nite with no responce, but it was very foggy and unseasonably warm.I live in central Minnesota(cant use lights) and temps are back to normal(10 deg.). Mainly wanted to use it for locating to better my odds.Any ideas?

You betcha!   Howled one in last time I was out, about 10 days ago, on the second set.   Never touched the distress call at all, not even the squeaker until it closed the 400 yards from when I first saw it to about 30.   At least out here in the west, howling works all year for me... especially from early evening (the golden hours until dark) to a couple of hours after dawn (the pre dawn on silver hours).   I always do howling first and then the distress only if needed, and use my mouth calls only.

Do they vocaly answer the howl before they come in?I was driving around at nite, stoping every mile and howling trying to get a responce. I guess I was just wanting one to answer my howl.
