S&W 586 RECALL
« on: July 07, 2011, 03:44:56 AM »
I have discovered that my new to me 586 (no dash) Smith had a recall on the weapon in 1883/84. This weapon was never sent into Smith for the correction. It has something to do with the FP as best I can determine.
S&W has assumed responsibility and is sending me a shipping label for rturn of the gun for correction.

I believe the issue was a slightly over sized firing pin opening that allowed some brands of high pressure .357 ammo to flow their primers into the opening, tying up the gun.  I never experienced that problem with my no dash 586, so have left it as is.

I had a silhouette model of the 586 at the time of the recall.

Do you remember when S & W brought out the 586 on the new frame size to beef it up for the new 357 high pressure loads. It really surprised me when I had to send in my new 586 for the factory correction. That revolver has been gone from me for a number of years and sometimes I wish it were in my possession  because it really was accurate.
