The Taurus model 72 trumps the Stevens model 30, in accuracy and ammo capacity, only way you could out shoot the Taurus is mount better sights on the Stevens.
Ive always had a soft spot for single shots, that goes way back, I'd bought the Stevens model 30 in .22Mag back in 2006 the dealer here bought 5 of them all prepaid, they were all consecutive serialized, It shot ok but wernt no barn burner in the accuracy dept, later on I got to shoot a Taurus model 63 semi in .22Lr, I liked the lines and the feel and workmanship, the gun dealer moved away to MI, so I my next .22Mag I bought from the local pawn shop (Kotzebue Gun and Pawn) this fellow stocked 4-5 of the Taurus Pumps in both model 62 (.22Lr) and 72 (.22mag) I opted for the stainless carbine
, I was amazed by the out the box handling and accuracy, fact the matter is I never even got to shoot the first 30 rounds out that carbine, the Kids loved it because of its heft, pointability and amazeingly its accuracy from its stubby carbine barrel, that was the clincher!, if kids find it accurate enough to have fun with, they gonna shoot it all the time, come to think I never touched the shights out the box and the kids were shooting off hand skipping golfballs at 30 and bouncing them out to 40 yards, once they got the hang of it they were shooting 5/0.
Ive noticed that Taurus puts a decent sporter crown on the barrels, what one dont notice is Taurus barrels are all counter bored the first 1/16" at the muzzle, next time you pick up a Taurus rifle look for the counter bore.......I think thats the secret to there amazeing out the box accuracy.
