Sumpin followed me home today
« on: July 08, 2011, 08:09:30 PM »
I dunno how the dang thing got in my truck it musta snuck in when I wasn't looking.  :o

Really I made myself a promise a long time ago that if I ran across one in a gun shop or at a gun show I'd not walk away without it. I paid WAY too dang much in my opinion but dang it I've been looking for one for several years and today was the first time I've seen one in a shop or at a gun show in years. It had a Model 27 also with 8-3/8" barrel laying beside it in the counter.

Great lookin' gun Bill.  Now don't be pointing that thing north 'cause I don't live that far away.....You gonna' use that one for concealed carry?

Great looking revolver Graybeard!
I just bought a Mod 629 4" back in May. Yours makes mine look like it came out of a box of Cracker Jacks with that 8 3/4"barrel! Don`t know if you named it yet but " Old Convincer" might work.

I'm not much on naming firearms. I can only remember one I gave a name to of the several hundred I've owned. No I don't still have it but admit I wish I did. I had an 8-3/8" S&W686 I used to win a bunch of trophies and took it hunting a lot as well. I named it Silver. I honestly don't recall ever having named any others.

I reckon I've owned about every barrel length S&W has made in the M29 and M629 at one time or another with and without the under lugged barrels. For an iron sight gun I prefer them without the heavy underlug. With a scope they are so unhandy anyway it doesn't much matter.

I do prefer the long barrels tho and the M29 Silhouette with 10-5/8" was my all time favorite. I was a fool to let that one go. I almost bought a replacement for it from a member here but just couldn't see spending the money he wanted on it. At the time I had the attitude that such guns just shouldn't cost that much and since it wasn't MINE anyway I didn't buy it. I spent more on this one than he wanted for the M29 Silhouette. I wish now I'd have bought it but didn't. I really should see if the fellow who bought mine still has it and is willing to part with it.

Smith and Wesson.   The original point and click interface.

I have one just like it in my safe, and its six and four inch brothers too.

I had one of the IHMSA models too.   The best part about that gun was pulling it out of the case at the range.   It made men giggle and women blush.    I was lukewarm on selling it but the guy who wanted it couldn't stop giggling so I sold it to him.

Bill,

Nice ride and a good score.

GI has a 29-3 Silhouette listed for a McKinley and three Franklin's.   ;)
