« on: December 27, 2003, 02:25:30 PM »
Hello to all
I have a ruger #1 in 257 stw that has severe copper fouling i'm having a devil of a time removing it. I've tried butch's bore shine & tetra gun.
the tetra gun I left in over night twice, it still has visible copper fouling
any help or suggestions would be appreciated
are you shure thats one hole?

Try a couple of applications of patches saturated with SHOOTERS CHOICE Extra Strength Copper Remover followed by a couple of applications of ISSO Bore Paste Cleaner on a cleaning mop the next size up from the 257 STW.

All of my rifles and hand guns come out spotless after this cleaning process.

God Luck

If that doesn't work, find a friend who has a Foul Out and borrow it.  This WILL remove copper fouling.  It works by reverse plating the deposits out on an electrode you insert in the bore.

Make you own electronic bore cleaner

That  foul-out device works and works well.  But you don't have to spend all that money to get one.  They are simple to make and have been around for years.

Here is a website that tells how to make one.

http://members.rogers.com/snidey/borecleaner.html

I had a Martini enfield Carbine that looked like the bore was all corroded up from shooting corrosive ammo.  The bore was black and rifling was indistinct.

After a couple of cleanings I was starting to see some rifling but it was real obvious with the green patches what the problem really was.  Copper fouling!  One hour of treatment with this electronic bore cleaner and the I had a bright shiney sharp bore.
