Which one?
« on: October 21, 2003, 04:41:12 PM »
I want to put a fixed 2x scope on my SRH 44mag.  I'm considering four choices: Leupold, Burris, Nikon and Weaver.  I've never had the chance to look through the Weaver, but their riflescopes seem pretty good.  Does one seem to be more forgiving about  blacking out?  I've compared a 2-7 Burris to a fixed 2x Leupold and the Burris didn't black out as easily as the Leupold did.  The Burris also has a 32mm objective lens though.

What about the adjustments?  I noticed the Leupold does not have click adjustments, but the Burris does.  What type do the Nikon and Weaver have?  I guess I'm leaning towards the Nikon, although I'm open to suggestions.  Does anybody see an aspect I haven't looked at?

Thanks!

i have a fixed 2x leupold and a fixed 2x nikon.   the nikon has click adjustments 1/4 inch at 100 yards vrs 1/2 inch at 100 for the leupold (and like you said the leupold doesnt click).  the other difference i notice is that the leupold you have to keep further away from your eye, good for guys with long arms.  the eye relief on the nikon fits me better (i am 5' 8").  i think the nikon has better features but no one can dispute leupold's reputation.  cant give my experience with the other two as i dont know about them.   hope this helps some.

I've got a 2x Leupold that goes back and forth between my 44mag Super Redhawk and my 22 Single Six.  I've never had any problems with it, and have been successful bringing home game ranging from squirrels to deer.  You can probably pick up one from the auction sites for around 135 bucks or so, if you keep looking.  Plus, you'll get the lifetime warranty to go with it.
The intruder turns around slowly, sees both barrels, and hears a low-deep voice say "Son, the left one's iron and the right one's steel, if the left one don't get you, the right one will"

I prefer the Nikon 2X over the Leupold 2X.  I've owned both and the Nikon is brighter and has a larger field of view.  Never had a problem with the two Nikons or the two Leupolds I've owned.  Leupold's do keep resale value better, I know cause I sold both my 2X and 4X Leupolds.

My Leupold 2X power is sitting in my gun cabinet. I do not like the black out with it. I have a Weaver 2X8X32 on my Encore 22-250 pistol, I have a Burris 3X9X32 on my Encore 30-06 Pistol. I have a Bushnell 4X32 on my Pachmyer Dominator in 35 Remington and a Bushnell 2X6X32 on my .223 Contender pistol. My 44 MAG, 45 ACP, S&W500 and BFR in S&W500 and my Ruger .22 pistols all have red dots. I love Leupold scopes but not there pistol scopes. I get a better field of view with all the other pistol scopes and not as much black out.  My rifles have Leupold. On my shorter range pistols I like the red dots. For long range I go for a scope. :)

What kind of red dot did you put on your 500 S&W?  I have a 2X
Leupold on mine.

My vote is BURRIS! I have tried many different scopes on many hanguns. The one that works best for me is 2x7 Burris. I can put 5 in a inch and one eight group at 100 yards with it. I  am 5ft.6 tall and I found that with my reach that the Burris fits me. I do have other scopes on my other pistols. And they are OK. The others may work for you, but I am sold on Burris.
Praise GOD, and pass the ammo!

Some of us "real" shooters had 60 year old eyes when we were 30 :(  now that I'm 58 age my eyes are 88  . Some of us can't be in the game without that glass sittin' on the top of that shootin' iron.
Love those .41s'

easy there big shooter, I am only funnin

just so happens I have a reddot on my .357 and I have even scoped my .44.

Course I am such a cheapskate that I bought a cheap scope and I was rather soured on the whole prospect of scoped big bores.

sides, I can, so far anyway, do pretty decent with the open sights on my M-29.
