Handi Bore Sizes

Do handis generally run to spec with their bore sizes? Is a .30-30 a true .308", is the .45-70 .458", etc?
I know some manufacturers can run a little bit big and I realize every gun is different, I'm just looking for a ballpark reference.

They normally run within SAAMI specs, .30 cal bore spec is .300"(lands), groove .308", +/- .0005", throughout the length of the barrel, you'll find H&Rs will likely be ~.0005" bigger at the muzzle than ahead of the chamber due to being bored and rifled first then contoured and not being stress relieved.

OK, I should be allright using .309" cast bullets in the .30-30 then, and .459" in my .45-70.

I'd use the biggest diameter that will chamber, bigger is better with cast, size em in the bore as someone said recently! ;D Up to .311" for the 30-30 and up to .461" for the 45-70. Be sure to check the COL and seating depth for the 45-70 before you send it off if you're gonna load up some ammo for it while it's gone,  specially for anything bigger than 300gr.

I will, thanks for the tips. I haven't bought any .45-70 bullets yet, but I have some .30-30's coming sized at .309 with a hardness of 14-16. I plan on running those around 1800 FPS or so, hopefully I don't lead. We'll see, I guess. Perhaps a slugging is in order.

FWIW, in my Win.'94 30-30 anything over .310 in the case gets hard to chamber, so my typical .311-.312s for the 30-06 and 30-40 Krag need another pass though the .310 sizer. A looser chamber would be different so that is how you find the limit, easy chamber and extraction while still using as large a dia. as possible.
Maybe try some loads in the 1450ish fps range first and work you way up (if those bullets are plain base, unquenched or not lino). No sense in leading right off and having everything go to waste after it does.
