Need a chamfering / deburring tool for large casings
« on: July 18, 2011, 07:08:22 AM »
I have a 51 caliber wildcat that has a case mouth OD of .540 and need a tool to deburr the outside edge of the case mouth.
I have several that work upto 45 cal. but are to small for this case.
Anybody have a tool that would work for this ? even if it isnt designed for handloaders.
After I cut the cases to length they have a rough edge from my mini cutoff saw I use to trim them.            Thanks,   Jed

There are tools for pipe that may work ( some of the new insert fittings require a bevel on the OD to keep from cutting the seal as it is installed ) and also a tool called a Roto-burr that would work.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Green Lee , Ideal as well as others make a barrel reamer that is used for EMT ( electrical metalic tubing ) & copper pipe that should work for what you are wanting , one side does the inside , while the other does the outside .

The only problem may be COL for the outside , not sure how short the case's are .

Try a countersink, it's a tool for champhering/beveling the edge/mouth of a hole. Made in sizes up to 3", with different angles. Some may have a 1/4" hex shaft and can be used in a power driver. Try a 60 degree. http://www.mcmaster.com/#chamfering-countersinks/=d8h0wk

Thanks for the sugestions , The idea of the conduit reamer is great , that should work .  I only need to do the outside edge and want to keep it as simple as possible.
The cartridge is a strait walled rimmed case I am making from 8 X 50 Lebel cases, cut down to 1.3 " I am calling it the  51 Special it will shoot bullets of .515 dia.   ;D

I can't remember if mine is a Lyman or Redding, since I am at work, but I bought one last year for use on my 45-70 and it is suppose to handle calibers up to 65-70. It's twice the size of the RCBS reaming/chamfering tool.
