Marlin X7VH
« on: September 09, 2011, 03:47:04 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has tried one of these new rifles yet? I was thinking about picking one up just to have around the house to shoot coyotes and maybe a deer or two in the pasture. Can't make my mind up if I want another 308 or a 22-250. I have 3 308's already, no heavy barrels though. I'm not getting this rifle to shoot long range, all of the shots will be 350 yrds or less. Let me know what you think.

I've had a Marlin X7VH in .308 for over a month now.  Presently this model only available in .308 Win and .243 Win.  I've also owned a Marlin XL7 in 25-06 for about 2 years.  Both my Marlins have basically the same plastic stock, with the VH one, of course, having a larger barrel channel.  I became very pleased with the 25-06 Marlin after a couple of trips to range with it....good accuracy, nice adjustable trigger.  As to the .308 XVH Marlin, with about 70 + rounds downrange with it, I'm not as happy with it.  Doesn't seem to be as accurate as my 25-06 and while not a severe problem, copper fouls much more than I remember with my first Marlin.  Wish I had a bore scope to inspect the riflings/lands in my .308Win and compare its bore with the 25-06.  The 25-06 was made in the Marlin Connetticut plant and the .308 was made in the Marlin/Remington Kentucky plant.
