Favorite 6.5x55 loads??
« on: September 21, 2011, 08:08:00 AM »
Hey guys was wondering what some of your favorite loads for this caliber are. So far with  45grs of H4831sc behind a 140 gr hornady softpoint it averages 3/4 " groups. Been working on some 140 Sierra gamekings but with no luck. Any of u shoot the gamekings if so what is working for u? The rifle is a model 70 classic featherweight. Also shot ballistic tips in a 260 but ain't tried them I'n the swede yet. And have some 140 sst and 130 accubond. If u have some favorite loads with these please share them. Thanks

i haven't loaded any 140's. I have had good luck using RL22 with 120 Ballistic Tips and 129 Hornady's.

45 grs AA-4350, Rem case, Fed 210M primer, 140 Sierra or Hornady SP OAL 3.050 a touch over 2800 fps.

46 grs AA-4350, Rem case, Fed 210M primer, 120 Nosler ballistic tip or Sierra SP OAL 3.050 3000 fps.

I shoot these in my sporter M-96 Swede Mauser with original 29" barrel and they will shoot 1/2" or less at 100 yards if I do my part. The over all length OAL of 3.050 is as long as will work through the magazine in this rifle.

These loads are max loads for the 96 Mauser action( under 46,000 CUP) given to me by the Accurate Arms ballistics people.

I have killed deer with both loads and all bullets mentioned and like the 120 gr bullets best. But they all hammer deer waaaaaaaaaaaay out there.

Thanks guys I have shot deer with the 140 horndy sp, 120 bt, and 130 accubond. All worked very well and I have no complaints with any of them. All the deer were shot with a 260 Rem which I figure u can't really tell the difference between it and the swede.

I am loading  46.3 Imr4831 for 2700 Vel with the140gr. bullet just short of the rifling . Try about 10% down to load up in your rifle .
