Yogo barrels
« on: March 07, 2013, 12:17:27 AM »
I ran across a place called Widener's Reloading & Shooting Supply that advertised new 22" Yugo barrels still in cosmoline for $55.00. I wanted to check with some of you to be sure that the Yugo threads are the same as 98 Mausers and VZ24's before I decided to order. Thanks in advance.  John

John:  you may have to contact Widener's directy for technical assistance or run this one past the gunnut69, the Moderator of the Gunsmithing Forum.  Yugo barrels produced for the Yugoslavian M98 Mauser rifles, whether VZ24s, VZ2447s or 48s or VZ/CZ24/52 MAY have different threads.  Some of those Yugo Mausers are the same size as the K98/M98 Mauser actions but others, like the M48 and M48A are a tad shorter and may be threaded differently.  If they are the wrong threads for your rifle you should be able to swap without aa problem.

As for quality - the Yuog may well be one of the smoothest actions and best quality military Mausers ever produced.

i bought a yugo mauser gun looked good. barrel on inside looks like the inside of a sewer pipe have shot it but not that good nice action though. the smith i took it to told me he couldn't fit a 98 mauser barrel to it i have two real good ones. so i bought a new yugo manufactured barrel.im having bolt bent an scope mounts put on it if shoots ok i will leave it alone if not i will  have the new barrel  put on.

I really hate to say this but here it goes. If the smith could not fit a barrel to a 98 mauser or yugo I would take my business elsewhere. The mausers have to be one of the most simple barrel installations around. Yes there are certain precautions to be taken but are way easier than lets say a rem 700. Maybe the smith was being honest with you regarding his knowledge of 98 mauser barrel fitting or could be he just didn't want to do the job. Please take this in the spirit in which it was posted. Frank

i finally got my yugo to shoot good it was the military ammo turkish i switched to my reload 's and i got it  sighted in with 5 shots.so if you have trouble getting your yugo to group well try some fresh loaded rounds .i could not believe the difference. ;D
