Kinda Good News
« on: July 19, 2011, 12:22:16 PM »
Good news.......kinda. My heart doctors made it sound like I had no choice but to have the valve replaced. Well I just got back from the sit-down with the heart surgeon and he said that normally he would go ahead and replace the valve, but of course little is ever normal with me. Due to my other health problems and scar tissue from the bypass, he said that I am a very high risk. He told me that he is not convinced that all my pain is heart related, though some most certainly is, and that I can live with things as they are indefinitely if I'm careful. He said eventually I will have to have the valve replaced but it's just not a good idea at all to try and do it now. He told me that one of the many risks is that my heart is completely encased in scar tissue, as well as my chest walls, and that that complicates things considerably. Soooo, no operation. That's a big load off my mind because frankly the odds of surviving it were not good at all. I'm not only happy I won't have the operation but I'm happy my wife and kids don't have to see me like before with wires and tubes stuck everywhere. Thanks for the prayers everyone. In my mind they worked. :) As I said, eventually there won't be a choice, but untill then I intend to enjoy every minute of life best I can. Now I can truly look forward to hunting season. ;) On another note, my son will have to be operated on for a hernia and is recovering from a severe bad reaction to a antibiotic. I'd rather be ill myself than see him ill.

I would take it as good news. It seems they are continously advancing medicine, and five years from now what you need may be a reletively simple procedure.

The wife suffers from Retinitus Pigmentosa. Every year gene therapy advances are bringing a useful treatment closer. Though legally blind there is hope it can be stopped or even reversed. We view such advancements as good news even though a cure is not available today.

as one who is severely limited, I feel your pain.  it sounds like you're not one to just give up  but please let others drag your deer etc.  they'll be glad to do it and you might just live a long time.

He was very pleased with what he saw, said theres the door will see you in 4 mos. for your regular check up. ifin I get a deer this year, got a 40 yr old s i l, and 30 yr old son that can drag and carry for me.

SPIRITHAWK. Not great news but it certainly could have been worse. We aren't pups anymore, let somebody else drag and clean that deer. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Guess no bad news is good news.  Get a nice buck, during the upcoming season!

Good news Elder. I was hoping you would still be kicking around the woods. Get the kids to take you hunting this time. I think it's time to let them carry the "old" man a bit. ;D

Thanks everyone. Things like this show you who your friends are. :) I'm relieved I don't have to have the operation but I eventually won't have a choice. Gonna be pretty rough then but till then I intend to enjoy every second I can. Got back into playing guitar and jamming a lot with my son. Put our names in for an anual Managed Muzzleloader hunt in Oct. Got my bow ready for Archery Season. Looking forward to Firearms Deer Season and getting out with my Encore .270. My son has a new Encore Hunter Pro 7mm Mag he's chomping at the bit to get a deer with. He love's my Encore so I know he'll love his. Got grandkids coming of age and wanting Grandpa to take them Deer and Turkey hunting. Lots to look forward to so a pending operation somewhere in the distant future can wait to be worried about when it's time. Just adopting the way I do things to keep the odds in my favor best I can. :)
