stock question savage
« on: September 09, 2011, 05:40:15 PM »
picked up a savage 110 in 270 win with the flexi flyer stock.
will not stay stable  and warps even after relieving the barrel channel  to free float, so , its getting a new stock.

Ive got it narrowed down to 3 possibilities

a boyds laminate thumbhole, a B&C carbelite, or a houge overmould with the aluminum bedding rail built in.

I like the looks of the boyds, but itll need pillar and glass bedding\doable locally
The B&C carbelite  I know nothing about  how to make one shoot.
the houge is supposedly a drop in ready to go piece  but Ive never shot/handled one.

thoughts/opinions?

I have used Boyd's and B&C Carbelite and found both to be well worth the money. My suggestion is to pick one and let the performance tell you what modifications are necessary. The Carbelite that I have was 100% drop-in and shoots quite well. Of the two Boyd's only one required minor fitting in the magazine well. Whether you pillar and bed them is up to you.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!

I have a Boyd's stock on a Savage 111 chambered in 270Win and it is good.  The Bell and Carlson Carbelite is a good stock if it has the bedding rail built in.  The earlier B&C's had a problem with cracking between the recoil lug recess and the mag well but I believe they have put the rail in the later production models.   The Hogue is a decent stock and I would really like them if they weren't so heavy, as I like a lighter rifle for carrying.

I bought a Richards Microfit for my Savage a few years ago.  It finished up quite nice, looks, and shoots good.
