Ruger M77 257 Roberts

Took it out in the 98 degree Mississippi heat and got this. Load data was safe in MY rifle. Work up to with caution in your own. I may not be able to repeat this every time I go to the range but it is a good indicator of potential. This is just like it came back to me from Ruger,untinkered with. So does this qualify it as an out of the Box rifle? What do ya think Swampy will think?

wow thats great. You have about the holy grail of ruger bolt guns. A 257 thats a tack driver. Ive had tang safety and markIIs and never  had one that shot like that. was it at a 100 yards?

I have a Ruger MkII in 257 and, although I've killed a number of deer with it, I had a heck ofa time just getting 1.5 inch (at best) groups!   
 
I keep saying I'm gonna get it outa the safe and play with the bedding some, but ... to many other projects!

Good rifle.
Swampman will say one of three things.
1) it must have been made by Remington as a OEM project
2) they would be touching if it was a 700
3) Must have been using Remington ammo.  See how well that stuff groups even out of a rifle that was not made by Remington.

Sorry Lloyd,,,gotta keep this one,,,,my home is like the Devils Triangle for guns,,,once they go in ,,,they never come out. And yeah,,,it was 100 yards. I wont say it'll do it every time either,,,,but it done it once. Time will tell tho. Shoot if it does twice as bad its still a half inch rifle. Probably as good as any Remington factory rifle Reckon?

What a fine choice in rifles.  Its too bad the .243 hype put this fine caliber on the shelf.

heck id of been intersted if it was a one inch gun at a 100 yards. Only 257 ruger ive ever owned that would even do that is the #1 i have right now and it wont do it all the time. Its about a consistant 5 shot 1 1/4 gun. Most of the rugers i had would have me jumping up and down with joy if they shot a 2 inch group. I dont know what it is about 257 roberts ruger guns but they sure have a problem, well at least did anyway. Funny thing is ive had 3 2506 rugers both bolt and single shot and every one of them have been tack drivers. Ive got two ruger 250 savages and both of them well not tack drivers shoot at least close to moa.

Very good group & triangle instead of a string, I doubt it's a fluke.
 
Yea, 102 with Heat Index of 113 here today, good time to see if your load is hot I guess.

Yea, 102 with Heat Index of 113 here today, good time to see if your load is hot I guess.

Iffen those holes are really .257" as they should be that can't be a o.145" group more like about a half inch. The bottom hole and top right hole are the widest spread and are clearly a minimum of two hole diameters apart the way I measure it.

Still a fine group and yes if it repeats that I'd say you have a fine shooting rifle. I have a couple loads for my .257 Whby that groups about like that when I'm doing my part which these days isn't all the time. It should do anything you reasonably ask of it.

i thought the same when i saw the picture but it still was so good of a group that i was impressed. Rugerfan i dont know if you realize it but when you measure a group you measure center to center on the two holes that are the farthest apart and thats your group size.

It actually measures .402 outside to outside. .402-.257=.145. I'd have been thrilled if it'd measured .999. photo was not the best but I'm still happy as a dead pig in the sunshine.
