Eagle Scout!
« on: July 18, 2011, 03:39:25 AM »
My oldest son met and passed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on last Friday night!  I pretty happy, proud and stoked about it for him!  He's had a lot to overcome with delayed speech as a child and continuing learning disabilities not to mention changing troops all the time when we moved around the world.  He stuck with it and made it happen!!!

Just had to boast a bit!

Sincere congratulations to your son and to his parents.  IMHO, he has achieved one of the top tiers that a young man can strive for, and, I'll bet, a major factor in that achievement is the love and support of his folks.  May his life continue to be a shining example of young manhood, and may he always hold to the ideals instilled by the Boy Scouts.
Thanks for the stump

NGH. Great news, that is quite an accomplishment. I never made eagle scout, our bunch disbanded but I loved the scouts and learned a lot. Scouting promotes high moral standards and family values that is lacking in many of todays youth. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

That's great, you should be very proud! My son is 9 and getting ready for Webelos, he started as a Tiger Cub Scout. I've been his den leader since then, we both love it. I hope my son will stick with it and earn his Eagle.

You should buy him the Henry Eagle Scout edition lever action rifle  ;)

I earned my Eagle in 1974.  I've done many things and been many places over the years, but I still consider earning scouting's highest award one of my most significant accomplishments.

My first job out of the army was with IBM.  Out of thousands of applicants, I was the only Eagle, and the Field Manger who hired me was a scout master.  He later told me this was the one thing that set me apart from all the rest.

So I say congratulations, he has much to be proud of, and may it open many doors for him as well.

victorcharlie I have heard of the hiring situation before and I know a young man that was trying for a job in the medical field. The choice came down to two well matched young men. Being a Eagle Scout got him the job.
Tell your son from an old scout master. Congratulation.

Thanks y'all.  We are proud.  The youngest one is just about ready for his 1st Class rank.  Now he is stoked for continuing to work to Eagle.  God willin' we'll have two Eagles in about 2-3 years.  My oldest daughter earned the Girl Scout Gold Award which is their Eagle equivalent.  I need to get them something for their achievments.  Not sure what though.  Probably a gun as was suggested.  I'll probably go with something bigger than a .22 even though the Henry is nice.  Ruger has a 10/22 scouting version as well.  Probably a mid-caliber deer rifle of some sort.  Maybe I'll just give them a dollar figure and take them to the gun show...  Of course, the girl will research and look and figure what is the best deal to do the most hunting with.  The boy will go find the first thing that he thinks is cool and want that regardless of what he can actually do with it.

Congratulations! from a fellow Eagle scout dad.  Both my boys made Eagle, the oldest did it on his own, the youngest needed a push from his mom.  He originally wanted to quit due to distractions (girls).
After college, when he went for his job interview, the interviewer gave him a cursory interview, then started to talk to him about his Eagle project.  ;D Needless to say, he was happy his mom pushed him to complete his Eagle.
Remember, the Court of Honor for Eagle, also honors the scouts' family.  Boast all you want, you and your entire family deserve it.
If he decides to enlist in the service.  I was told by a friend (whose son also made Eagle in the same troop, and joined the Coast Guard) that they would allow him to enlist as a E-3.

Yup, they get E-3 right out of Basic for Eagle scout.  Not a bad deal...  They also recognize the GS Gold Award the same way.
