Hi, Carol and I will be in Colorado next month and we're wondering if there is any artillery we should be on the lookout for. Probably will be mostly in the Denver/ Lyons area 8/4 ~8/11. Thanks LS

     Pete we have a few cannon out here in Colorado, but really nothing compared to you folks back east.  With the exception of 3 seacoast and naval guns in Denver's City Park just east of the Natural History Museum and just south of the Denver Zoo, all of the others are the garden variety Napoleons, Ordnance Rifles and Flank Howitzers.

     So, in City Park you have a 100 Pdr. Parrott Rifle M1861, a 13" Seacoast Mortar M1861 and an 11" Dahlgren Naval Shell Gun.  The two12 Pdr. bronze Napoleons M1857 at the State House are worth seeing because they were made by the Revere Foundry in Boston, Mass.  And they were both were inspected by T.J.R., Thomas J. Rodman. There is a 12 Pdr. Bronze Mtn How M1835 at the downtown Colo. Heritage Museum and another at the main Denver Library WSW of the Capitol.  Just east of Denver, in Aurora, there is a bronze 6 Pdr. field gun M1841 at the Colorado National Guard Armory.  It is fairly rare and was cast by the Hooper Foundry and inspected by Thomas J. Rodman.

    If you need more just give us a call when you get out here.  If you have time, we could give you a tour of the Krupp Replica Works.  It's easy to find, just look for the huge, tall Smokestack on the horizon to the south of Longmont,  That's us!   ;)   Kidding aside, just stop in we'll give you the deluxe tour.  Double D. got the 50 cent tour, but don't tell him.

Hello Little seacoast , Do I remember that you were going to lyons Co. ?
 
It is a very nice little town with some decent food too ! 'Oscar Blues' is pretty good ,But the real jewel is a newer place called "Smokin Daves BBQ" it is right on Main St in Lyons or hwy 66 same /same .
 
Mike ,Tracy and I went there for lunch today .....three thumbs up on the Carolina pulled pork and everything else . 
 
Like Tracy said if you can meet up that would be sweet .
 
As for cannons most cannons in Co. will be in MT . next month ! 8) 
 
The cannons at city park are a must see.  ;)

There is a bamboo flyrod makers conclave in Lyons on the 7th of August, our main reason for being there. Plan to check out Rocky Mtn National Park and as many of the high elevation freestone cutthroat streams as I can manage too.
Thanks for the tips on eating places, we've never been there before. I do want to check out the Krupp works, had no idea you were located so close!

I can tell you this, my tour included a birthfay cake for my wife...and all I heard until the cake was gone a couple days later, was how nice the Seacoast Guys are, blah, blah, blah ...   ;D

Yes there is at least one maker in Lyons . I havn't been in there in years .
 
Are you going to fish the Big Tompson River ? The fish are small as is the river but the fishing can be good . I'd start with a #14 stimulator as a strike indicator with a nymph dropper about a #16 .
 
There is a new fly shop at 66 and 287 in Longmont . There's one in Estes Park too . The drive over the top of Estes Park to Grand Lake is very pretty .

    Gary is right, Smokin Dave's is the best BBQ we have found in Colorado, Pete and would stand up to McNealey's Interstate in Memphis and all of them in Kansas City too.  We welcome you to Colorado and also to Seacoast Artillery Company.  Most people know we were kidding when we wrote that Double D, got the 25 cent tour, but if they didn't you, can hold us to our promise of a deluxe one just like DD got!

      The pleasure was entirely our's, Douglas.  And while Mike droned on and on about speeds and feeds during your tour, I had the pleasure of chatting with your delightful wife about children, dogs and gardening.  The time passed so quickly that I felt almost rudely interrupted when you guys emerged from the shop.  What a fine woman, but you already know that.  Thank you so much for visiting!
