Bible Question
«
on:
July 18, 2011, 03:27:57 AM »
My favorite Study Bible is a Tyndale Life Application Bible, King James Version. I notice Joshua 11:6 uses the word HOCK. My other KJV Bibles use the word HOUGH. Is Tyndale the only publisher to use the word HOCK in the King James Version?

Not sure about which uses which but the meaning is to cut the leg tendon on their horses in order to render them useless and making the chariots useless in battle.

Hough
To hamstring, i.e., sever the "tendon of Achilles" of the hinder legs of captured
horses
(Josh.
11:6;
2 Sam.
8:4;
1 Chr.
18:4
), so as to render them useless.

Strong's lists the Hebrew word as "aqar" (aw-kar')
Meanings:
1. to pluck up (especially by the roots)
2. specifically, to hamstring
3. (figuratively) to exterminate
Looks like the Geneva and Young's Literal Translation use Hough.
