Going to Hospital "Again"
« on: July 23, 2011, 04:14:59 PM »
Friday while doing my exercise at Cardiac Rehab, I started feeling bad.  Sort of wrung out, so I stopped.  The folks there came right over and took my blood pressure, and started asking questions.  I started having chest pains, so I popped a nitro.  Wrong thing to do.  I had been sweating bad, and was dehydrated.  Blood pressure plumated, I did not pass out, but was totally incapacitated.  Four guys lifted me off the New Step machine I was on, and sat me in a wheel chair.  Nurse was calling for a gurney, but the guys there (fellow patients) were not waiting.  One guy litiaraly ran out the door, and up the hallway, pushing that wheel chair.  All the way across the Hospital, people opened doors and made way for us.  Right into Emergency room and they were waiting and ready.  I was sweating, and burning up, due to the low blood pressure.  It took a while for them to get me stabilized.

Cardiologist followed the wheel chair to the emergency room, and was examining me as soon as I was on the bed.  Later he came back and wants to go in and take pictures and examine the vessels in my heart.  He agrees with me something is not right.  I had stints put in last August, and have had minor chest pains eversince.  Then in April I had a sever chest pain incident and went into the emergency room.  Doctor did a cath and found the stints I had put in last August had collapsed.  The vessels had crushed them, so they blew them back up and put new stints inside those.  I was still having chest pains, so the doctor would not clear me to go back to the gym and do my Physical Thyropy routine till I completed Cardiac Rehab.  Looks like that was a good thing.

I'm scheduled for the Cath Lab Monday morning at 0600.  That's 6AM for you civilian types.  May God give the Doc a steady hand.  Never before have I been concerned, I just knew it was going to be OK.  This time I am a bit worried.  Rog

My prayers are with you Sourdough.    I too got word from my cardiologist on Friday - have to go in next week for a cardiac catheter, rotorooter and possible stents to clear what he calls a 70% blockage in one of my cardiac arteries.  Funny thing is I never have had any of the classic symptoms, pain, etc.... the stress test pictures show an area of the heart that isn't getting any blood.   Oh well I'll keep you on my list.

Good luck for both of us next week!

I'm praying for you SD, I also love your tales from Alaska. Just last Dec I went to the ER at 35yrs old for what I thought was a bad chest cold, turned out to be an infection of my heart valves. Had surgery then to replace 2 of them and then one came loose in Feb so back to the hosp I went for the same surgery so I kinda know what your going through and hope everything works out for you bud. I'm sure you have many stories still to post so here's to a speedy recovery!

Man, I hope all goes well for you.
I have 9 of them in me over the years with 6 heart attacks and 4 angioplasties.
My last one was just last month so I know exactly what you are going through.
They had to redo the one they did back in 03.
I have been lucky with no problems after any of them.
I sure hope you have the same good fortune after they fix you up this time.
Prayers for you my friend!

Out of the 4 stents I have, one needed to be roto rootered and a nuke pill put at each end and zapped so it woundent clog up again(must have been caused by all the grease in the double cheese burgers and chicken fryed steak and gravey and potatoes MAYBE) a second one needed to be replaced. Went in last Tue. for my stress test (wife said this did not mean to stress the Dr) he liked what he saw in the pictures and said everything was looking real good. 2 weeks ago wife hauled me off to ER  because of chest pains. All kinds of tests and nothing found, latter they figgered it was because of the acid reflex prob I have, would rather go to ER and be wrong than have some guy shoveling dirt in my face.

Hey Sourdough....hang in there buddy.  It isn't all that uncommon that stents close....I can't remember the % but they do and it is fairly frequent...which is why they make a medicated stent to try to prevent this.

Rog, Gregg, you both are in my prayers.  Those of us that have been there know what a suprising, shocking, demoralizing thing you are going through.  Try to keep a positive attitude.

Well, after battling with the insurance company for a week I finally went into have my cardiac cath done on Friday.   Went in at 530 am Friday morning,   went home at 530pm Friday evening.   Friday nite and Saturday were just a blur due to leftover anesthesia.    Head is clearer now.    News from the doc was not perfect but not bad.   No stents placed this time, no damaged arteries.    Going to read the morning paper - havent' done that in a few days.   All in all - thank you Lord - I am blessed.

It's nice to hear some good news for a change.
Glad things aren't as bad as they first thought!

I got my bill the other week for my last visit.
One day only.
Just the hospital, no doctor bill and no emergency room bill.
Just the hospital bill which was $70,000.00, for (1) day !!!
Nothing but legalized crime.

I sneezed one day last week.  When I sneezed the site hurt like the dickens.  Pulled the stitch loose and the vessel leaked.  I did not know that was what had happened at the time.  Now I have bruising all across my abdomen, and other parts.  Wife is laughing, says it looks like someone beat me with a mallet.  Went in to see the doctor yesterday.  He checked the site, said bleeding has stopped, bruising will last 10 days to two weeks.  soreness will persist for that time as well.  Never had this kind of a problem before.  Doctor told me not to lift anything heavier that a half gallon of milk, period.

Got to get better fast, we leave for Caribou in three weeks.
