every now and again i like to get out my trusty ol wolf.. granted its nothing like it was out of the box, and i've put a lot of lead thru the tube in the last few years of having it. it was a gift, and my first ML. owned a few since and still more to come, but its still fun to get out now and again just cuz we can.
what started me wanting to shoot it this weekend was a couple of discussions i read on this site with people mentioning their wolfs. that and i just built a 200yd range and a new shooting bench for shooting my next ML being built. figured why not go throw some lead with the wolf and see just how much drop i could get!! that and i cut off a couple inches from the end of the barrel yesterday, so had to see if any ill effects came from this...
i started out at about 75yd and went with usual hunting load, still shot as well as ever, less than an inch. that load was 62gr pyrodex P, a cardboard wad and a 495gr boolit i cast. next i tried same load but with my larger 590gr gas checked boolit and it shot as well or better and actually hit an inch or two higher. cool i thought... on to 200yd
at 200 took me a while to get my scope adjusted enough to get even on paper or even close for that matter, and eventually gave up on my 495's and figured for the hell of it i'll launch a few of the 590's down and after two scope adjustments from where the last boolits were hitting, this is the 3 shot group i managed... i would guess under 3 inches, maybe 2 and half? anyways, i was impressed and figured i'd share for all you wondering about these rifles. im not advocate for the wolf, but i can't deny its results on days like today
